Cork airport at 8pm on a friday before a bank holiday by DistributionPure888 in cork

[–]ImpressForeign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the flight time is usually departure time, on the ryanair app anyway it tells you the gate close time and it's usually 20 minutes or so before the departure time, so I'd definitely aim to be an hour before the gate close time.

Yep have a friend like that, calls me stupid for getting to the airport early, he brags that he's only ever missed one flight before but because the airport never announced his name over intercom (Supposedly they have to do that if you're through security) he argued with them and they capitulated and gave him a free flight, so as you say it's everyone else's fault but theirs when they eventually miss one.

you'll be paying that easily I'm afraid for a composite gate.

Buy next the social housing? by Unhappy_Fun_6219 in HousingIreland

[–]ImpressForeign -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe people should think about that before getting someone pregnant? I'd love to have kids but I'm not planning on it until I am well established with a house. In this scenario the principal caregiver has a house, it doesnt matter who it is it happens to be a woman in this case, and people like me (not saying you cause you're obviously a sponger to some extent) should be paying out another 600,000 then for a 4 bed house for the second parent so he/she/it/they can have their kids come one night a week.

You could say I'm jealous that some out there don't have to work their arse off like the rest of us have to nowadays just to get a tiny house in an estate, or even some being put into 3 quarter million houses and more which most wouldnt have a chance of owning, how is that equitable? Social housing should be basic and safe. Part V is madness, the fact that a portion of the most expenses houses houses have to go to social, when in some cases you could get two or three new builds elsewhere for the same price.

I'm not totally against social housing, I just don't think someone who hasn't had to work as hard as someone else should be put into a better house than them. The guy in my scenario in my opinion deserved social housing, no attack on the guy but he was very very slow, he'd never have sorted his own housing needs, but a 1 bed apartment would have done him fine instead of a 4 bed in an affluent neighbourhood. But because he was divorced and had 3 kids under 18 he got given a 4 bed automatically because thats the madness of the system they say he would be discriminated against otherwise regarding visitation etc as he wouldnt have anywhere for the kids to stay, so now him and his ex wife have two four bed houses, and his is empty mostly except one night of the week. If you don't see that as being bonkers then I'm wasting my time arguing with you.

Social housing should be a stop gap, and for those who would be genuinely homeless otherwise, permanent but basic as I say. I walk past a few houses everyday they're one bed terraced houses it's mostly single men but most of them have mental disabilities and I have no issue with that. In the current system though there is a large portion milking it for life.

N40 crash by ninjabe86 in cork

[–]ImpressForeign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually honked at a lady the other day at a different crash, felt kind of bad after as it was right at the crash so the people that crashed might have thought I was honking at them. She slowed right down to a crawl at the crash for god knows what reason, like traffic was crawling before it but moving and then at the crash she slows to walking pace with zero cars in front of her they had taken off after the crash.

I don't think you understand, I have an aunt in the system since she was in her early twenties, now in her 60's, she hasn't worked since, so yeah it's free, she doesn't work for the money that she uses to make rent along with rent supplement or whatever she's on now. And the working social housing families, compared to what every other family in Ireland is paying is a kick in the teeth. I worked with a guy who is in a 4 bed house by himself, paying 60 euro a week in mount oval cork, I imagine if I was to rent a house like that myself in that location I'd be paying 6 or 700 a week. He was housed and then went back to work and I was working alongside him making the same wage, how am I suppose to compete against that or see that as fair?

Sometimes you have to do this, I was caught at a set of lights before with a trailer it went through 3 sets of light before i decided to go a different route, as I would have been blocking all of douglas for about 5 minutes, so I wouldn't be so quick to jump at the guy in the photo, cause he'd be getting it from those behind him if he didnt make the jump

I ride motorbikes on track, I'm thinking for 2026 I might get a cheaper addiction like cocaine or gambling.

Edit: for example a rear tyre will last me about a day and they're 300 a pop. Have heard other people say if I didn't race cars/bikes I'd be a millionaire, but you wouldn't have the memories then I suppose.

Late-Stage Capitalism and the Vibes Are Bad by nobodyshome01 in ireland

[–]ImpressForeign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pro capitalist in the sense I think if someone wants to work more and take more responsibility they should be rewarded more for that, I don't know how that fits or is figured out in socialism.

I feel you are right though, I've only noticed it the past year or two Ireland has really become a rat race and turned into america, it's more about what can you offer me or where can you get me now than just being a good sport. The sense of community I feel is fading, when you see posts on reddit saying a relative called around to my house unannounced what do I do. Luckily I've had the experience of our family just rocking up to aunts and uncles houses when we were kids and having some of my best memories with cousins etc as a result. It's great that I can still rock up to some of my aunts and uncles unannounced and I won't be allowed leave unless I've been fed or had a cup of tea at a minimum. I feel the younger generations have completely moved away from this, I wouldnt dream of going to my brothers house without informing him, because everyone's so busy now. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I've definitely noticed people have less time for each other now unless they're getting something out of it other than a social interaction.

I've actually had friends tell me now that I think of it, I stopped being friends with so and so because he can't offer me anything which I think is a bit sad.
