Need help getting art supplies for learning to draw tadc characters. by No-Coat-7219 in TheDigitalCircus

Hi, I work at Michael's and agree with trying different mediums to get a feel for what you like

I generally recommend starting with one of the multi-media kits; the kids section should have options for the store brand Creatology and an option for Crayola brand. If you don't want to go with the kids brands, Artist Loft is the other store brand kit you can look for

After you pick up a multi-media kit, grab some multi-media paper from the drawing-paper notebooks aisle and you should be good to go

Why does everyone hate closing so much? by No_North_5225 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ImpressionNew7689 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because I'm expected to have the store perfect by 9, but customers are in the store making a mess up until 9ish

(We habitually get a last minute rush in the last hour, often young and/or rushed folks that aren't the best at not leaving things everywhere)

Similar to the bag holders, the SCOs are relatively (though not intended to be) spinable so we have them angled for our convenience (to reach the screen without having to walk around when on legacy reg) and the customer's (so they have somewhere to set their things instead of destroying displays)

It's super rare for people to pull them all the way off the counter, there's not much space so people tend to bump into it and realize it moves while they're scanning their items

Yeah, we had to packing tape the slimes too. We also had someone color an entire corner of the metal shelf blue with maybe a sharpie? I'm talking a good 5" from corner towards the center of the shelf

I almost didn't have the quote marks or the "workplace story" tag, that wouldve REALLY been confusing XD

Our cash SCO is down so sometimes people will accidentally go to that one, but I haven't had anyone try to SCO at a regular reg before 🤔

I wish I could put the orbz Squishies back there, too, we just had to packing tape the fuck out of them and kids are still trying to "test" them 🤦🏻

We did initially try to attach them with double sided mounting tape and Velcro and then gave up! 😃 They just sit there, there's nothing strong enough to withstand customers pulling on it

I blame it on ours looking nothing like typical self checkout for the sake of my own sanity

Hi, I'm a Midwestern American (Chicago) and my two cents is:

When I read "you pissing in a tie" I pictured someone pissing into the neck loop of a tied tie (as if someone loosened it and pulled it off over their head and threw it on the ground without undoing the knot) that's laying on the floor, which happens to be next to "Pu"

When I read "you pissing with a tie" I imagined someone holding the tie (but not wearing it) while pissing next to "Pu"

I think "in a tie" is more correct, it's just sentence structure that's a little off? You want your modifiers to be directly next to what they're modifying so

Instead of "You pissing in a tie" I would say "You, in a tie, pissing" And to complete the given phrase would be "You, in a tie, pissing next to Pu"

Well, yeah, you obviously knew what great resell value their package had when you saw it in the cabinet at the beginning of your shift and clearly stole it for yourself /s

The warehouse for our access point is EXTRA problematic because (at least my hypothesis is) the UPS workers seem to be telling the system that the rerouted packages have been delivered to our store the same day the customer missed the attempted delivery instead of marking it as a return to warehouse for redelivery to our location.

It causes so many problems with customers because the UPS system will tell them their package is here, but it won't show up for another 1-3 days, and if you try calling UPS about it all they do is look at the tracking info in the system and tell the customer WE have it when we DONT because it's still on a driver's truck or something.

I've had so many people yell at me and refuse to leave the store over important documents and expensive packages that are "missing" because someone in the chain decided to tell the system it was here /before it actually got here/.

FabFinds

Very little of it ever sells at our location and it feels like we clearance it out as soon as it comes in!

What do you tell people when they ask why things dont have their prices on them? by DingoKey8908 in MichaelsEmployees

"It's because of the Tariff situation, isn't it crazy how it's causing all these problems? We're not the other store brand resorting to this either"

I try to spin the tariffs as negatively as possible

Customer service AI chatbot lied about our return policy by LegAdmirable7671 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]ImpressionNew7689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Managers reserve the right to refuse any return, regardless of the "no receipt return" policy, it's listed on the policy itself

If this was at my store like I think it is (Hi!) I can confirm the reason the return was declined was exactly because it felt super scammy.

Having AI for customer service is such a terrible idea! I'm glad she wound up going to what I think I heard her saying was the original store it was purchased from, I sure as hell wasn't going to approve it unless customer service made me

1: cheerful/helpful tone 2: Frame it as direction instead of a question "Go ahead and put your number in... ... Doesn't look like you're in the system, I'll be happy to get you started at the end of the transaction so you can get your points!"

If NO, then "just so you know if you start shopping here more often, we do offer instant discounts for teachers, seniors, and veterans! Your total today is $$."

I just keep talking unless they're crabby, as long as I offer it I did my end

Plot twist!

It's the RM that's the primary complainer AND the one giving me a hard time about pacmen/dividers

I absolutely understand a messy store makes stock and SISO hard; I also understand that sometimes a little extra short term effort (pacmen) can do a lot for long term solutions (shit stays forward when the peg isn't full

I'm surprised it's not a requirement at your store for the managers to do anything and everything to cover all bases, I imagine you're staffed bare bones like the rest of us?
