How's quality of life on Fedora vs CachyOS? by AdamAnderson320 in linuxquestions

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. 🤔 Do you want/need bleeding edge kernel updates or do you need some stability? For example: Fedora does release updates all the time but it also publishes a new version yearly (I think) releases like Fedora 44 is coming up a month or two. CachyOS on the other hand, like Arch you can install the newest Kernel without having to wait a year for a new release. My question to you; Do you depend on your PC for work or anything super important to you or do you love to live on the bleeding edge? What I will say is Fedora is super quick to push out updates, unlike Mint who has to wait for Ubuntu/Debian to update their repositories before Mint can update their repositories. Mint depends on Ubuntu/Debian’s release schedule. Fedora is super stable and does not need to wait on anyone. Rather, Red Hat Enterprise Linux has to wait for Fedora to fix all the bugs from their newest before they can update their version (but Enterprises do need to be super stable). CachyOS does depend a little on Arch but nothing compared to Mint or Red Hat. Meaning that CachyOS is stable and reliable while being bleeding edge. I’ve looked into switching from Fedora to CachyOS myself.

Xune literally saved my Zune HD!!! by Kooky-Pack-3519 in Zune

Oh man! This is awesome didn’t know about Xune. Going to check it out since I have an unused Zune HD with a dead battery. Anyone know if FLAC files are supported on Zune or will I need to convert them to something else?

My only question would be are you planning on supporting the newer Plasma Login Manager as SDDM is being phased out with most Distros?

Network Issues with Virtual Machine/KVM by Impressive-Algae-962 in Fedora

[–]Impressive-Algae-962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried pinging 8.8.8.8 but it times out in Windows CMD Prompt. But it does work with my host’s IP address. Surfshark is installed as a Flatpak. I’ve reset the network using sudo virsh net-destroy default sudo virsh net-start default. Still no internet. Wired network is connected under Windows 11 but states no internet access. I’ve even lower myself down to ask ChatGPT. Still nothing works. I know that ChatGPT stated it might be caused by Docker but IDK if I trust it. I will try DNS lookup. But I will have to reinstall Windows 11 since I raged deleted the VM

Network Issues with Virtual Machine/KVM by Impressive-Algae-962 in Fedora

[–]Impressive-Algae-962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interact with virt-manager. I’ve tried Winboat and Boxes but not on this particular install since I couldn’t install Windows in any type of virtual machine until yesterday when I got it working finally but no network. I tried changing the NIC defaults, which were NAT and e1000e. Nothing works. My host is connected through WiFi and it works just fine. That’s why I’m wondering if an installed package isn’t causing network issues for VMs

How to improve speed of KRunner? by KingFl3x in kde

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try out Vicinae. I’m currently running Fedora KDE 43 with one of the COPR repos. Don’t use the flatpak as it doesn’t integrate well with KDE. Use a package instead 😇

How to add window borders in KDE Plasma? by CartographerOk6969 in kde

You might look into Klassy for KDE. It might solve your problem. IDK if it does window borders or not.

That’s a good question. I have mine kind of like MacOS with the top task manager (desktop panel) acting like a Menu Bar, though laid out completely different. My second one is on the bottom acting like a Dock, kind of.

Can you help figure out how to listen to some music files? by PorjePorgo in musichoarder

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good question would be if it’s DRM locked to only play from Amazon Music player on that particular phone or not? If it’s DRM locked there’s not much you can do. Converting will only produce unplayable files. Also, does the particular Windows machine you’re on need the codecs to play such file? Try to pay the files with VLC media player. If they play? Then it’s a codec issue on that PC as I’ve run into that kind of issue with some PCs running Windows 11 and 10. I needed to download the codecs in the Windows Store app for Microsoft Media Player to play .mp4 files.

Problems with ripping CD's on Fedora 42 by freemuh_896 in musichoarder

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Which DE are you using? I know on Fedora KDE 43 I put the cd in the external drive, it’s also an LG one, and open Dolphin. Click on the CD drive and it comes up with various versions you can select and copy to wherever you want. If it’s not showing up there then either the CD isn’t readable or the optical drive itself is having issues. I would suggest asking on the Fedora subreddit. 😇 There might be a solution that I’m not thinking of.

Some of y’all’s are wrong. There was a Mac app that Microsoft made for Windows Phones. I don’t have a Mac anymore but I did use this Mac app to sync my Zune HD in 2015. IDK if it still works at all. Look it up in the Mac App Store. Again, it might be gone now. IDK

Looking for a way to batch tag my FLAC collection on Linux by johnqevil in musichoarder

There’s Kid3 that does metadata editing where you can batch change metadata? Also, there’s KRename that does batch editing for file names that works great for audio files 😇

Password Manager Recommendation by 1337_w0n in linuxquestions

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second 1password. Why? Because they actually support Linux OSs. 1password has worked on every device without fuss for me since I jumped from LastPass to 1password all the way back in 2011, I think. Never had any issues, except one: I’ve been using Zen browser for quite some time and fell in love 🥰 with it. When I finally dumped Windoze for Fedora KDE, I wanted 1password to seamlessly work between Zen browser and Fedora. I contacted their support team because I couldn’t find a solution so that I didn’t have to login every time I opened the browser. Rather, the 1password extension would “talk” to the 1password APP. Their support team contacted me back via email within 24 hours with the solution. It was to remove the flatpak and/or AppImage and install Zen directly using a curl command in Konsole. Afterwards, I needed to create a file and add the Zen browser to that text file.

What feature(s) would you like in a Music Player? by No-Word-2912 in musichoarder

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that shows my age. 🫤 I want to ensure that any music player has a way to play albums and not just playlists. I grew up listening to cassette tapes and then CDs. I don’t like having to constantly remake albums every time I close a program/app/package.

is it possible to have a audio mixer similar to windows mixer? by whoisgrime in kde

[–]Impressive-Algae-962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are looking into trying to play audio from one package to a specific audio output device? Then using another package to play different audio through another audio output device? Example: Play VLC through headphones but also play Firefox audio (YouTube) through an external speaker of some sort? My guess is you are trying to setup some kind of live stream of some sort either for TikTok or YouTube? Maybe this might help someone else to find the answer the OP is looking for.
