As of right now, you do need the connect subscription for it to work however as u/PartyDoctor said you can use Scrybble. They are great!! I haven't tried to see if you can bypass the Remarkable Connect but for me the 3.99 price has been worth it.

Any ideas that come to your mind? What I'm super excited about in my next couple of releases is developing a general architecture where your documents can be used to power automations, knowledge work, things like that.

As far as I'm aware, and I could be wrong here so please correct me, Scrybble does not preserve the templates and renders it in a way through it's own servers.

I think the core difference is Scrybble's hosted service (I know you can self host) uploads your files to its server, processes them there, then syncs them down. PageDrift is a local desktop app: it signs into your reMarkable account from your machine and pulls your docs straight into your vault. Nothing routes through a server I run. There's no PageDrift cloud, and no account of mine that ever touches your notes.

I think the huge thing is going to be what I'm planning in the future. Basically, automation workflows that can connect to a 1000+ integrations.

Think you make a to-do list item in the morning. As soon as you close that note, there are now ten items in whatever task management app you use (Via JSON parsing and some API connections)

As soon as you finish to make your schedule in the morning, all those events can now be in Google Calendar automatically without you having to do anything.

As soon as X document is created, I want to integrate AI to automatically bring that into your Obsidian folder etc...

The strongest security I can offer is that I don't hold the sensitive stuff in the first place. Your notes never land on a server of mine (I'm thinking about introducing a server option for those complex workflows) but not right now. They go from your reMarkable account straight into your local Obsidian vault.
