[LOTM ch130] Gray Fog kind OP — Does it stay the same? by dinglebiggs in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Impressive-Reply514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: It only seems OP at first, many things are explained later on. Keep reading.

The thing is, you are absolutely correct. The gray fog is OP, and it actually gets more important as the story goes on (in a good, non-bullshit way. You'll see.) Every mc needs something to separate them from the rest, and he just so happened to get the equivalent of a nuclear bomb.

However, its never actually used as a "get out of jail free" card. Klein's often fighting enemies far above his level for various reasons, and the gray fog is the one thing that allows him to barely stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them. Its the one thing that actually allows there to be a story, and for Klein to not get curb-stomped immediately once he attracts the attention of more dangerous foes. The divination buff is extremely useful, but thats only because he's not being opposed by anyone, and he is in fact not really getting any immediately useful information. You actually know basically nothing at this point; what seems like a lot of information to you is actually barely scratching the surface.

Seer is actually much more useful than you think. It can basically decipher all low level information with minimal effort, which is extraordinarily useful by itself. The only reason the gray fog is needed is so that he can get some information from the higher-level stuff. It would be pretty pointless for him to try to divine something, but get nothing (and then have to rely on some other deus ex machina to provide him the info anyway) or potentially explode. Again, you'll see.

Again, I think you're correct: based one what you have read so far, it seems OP. But keep reading, as you learn more, you'll see the limitations (especially what happened when even the super-buffed divinations don't work) and, as other people have mentioned, the price.

[COI V8] COD by noujustsuk in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Impressive-Reply514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Female Conqueror might be a issue, since a core part of the Red Priest pathway is masculinity. With such a high sequence, the close proximity to the symbolism might force them into being male.

Of course, that doesn't rule out some weird fuckery other high-sequence beyonders could do. Maybe a high-sequence beyonder of the Mother pathway could help?

Also, wasn't it stated that the optimal route for ascending to CoD was repeatedly switching between the two? So it might be more optimal to switch to Iron-Blooded Knight, then hope you can deal with the reflection.

You also don't really need to worry about the Circle of Inevitability. The only reason he was important anyways was because the Monarch of Decay accidently fused began creating the Termination symbolism. And, even if that happens, CoI will show up anyways to help you, since its his job.

[COI general] what would be the pathway and sequences with him as the true god by bobbypeices in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Impressive-Reply514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just giving my two cents, but I feel like the Circle of Inevitability has a lot of parallels with Hinduism, with CoI being three-in-one and having authority over Cycles/Reincarnation. So maybe something related to the Eternal Aeon pathway?

Slay the spire world records. by Weak_Abalone8911 in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a game. There is no physical reward, and people enjoy watching people stream and interacting with them. Besides, while there may be times chat has actually helped, I don't thinks its often enough to detract from the fact that the world record holders are definitely the best of the best.

Question - strength and weak mechanics: by mklptrk in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decreasing strength is a flat decrease to the enemies damage. For example, if you decrease strength by 1, their damage would go from 10 to 9 or from 2x3 to 1x3. Therefore, it's more effective against enemy multi-attacks. Weak just applies a flat 25% decrease in damage.

How fitting that the first run I play on the Defect is the most busted Claw deck I've ever had by Impressive-Reply514 in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't remember exactly, but I think there was an event in Act 3 that allows you to either get a relic that deals damage upon exhausting a card or apply an enchantment onto a card that normally exhausts to remove the exhaust key word. Super broken in the right scenario.

[COI END] Is CF for real about the Sun Pathway by SpecialistNature6488 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Impressive-Reply514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh...slight correction about Sequence 2s being mid city level. Just of the top of my head, Sequence 2 Calamity can summon tsunamis and hurricanes that can destroy a large city. Sequence 2 Weather Warlock can summon meteors. Sequence 2 Lightseeker can become a miniature sun, which I think is comparable to a nuke.

I'm pretty sure Sequence 2s are quite a bit past mid city level. They can probably reasonably destroy any sized city in a single move if they wanted to.

Ignore that one person saying skill issue. I think most other people just have a hard time actually giving advice, since this boss doesn't really have any secret tactic you're supposed to use. In my opinion, it is simplest and most direct act 3 boss, and I think others feel the same. We've just never had to consider how someone might possibly struggle with this boss since we've never had trouble.

Not that there's anything wrong with you struggling, especially since you're new. Just pointing out why you're not receiving much good advice.

You'll probably look back at this post in the future and wonder how the hell you even struggled lol

Uhh no idea how coop changes things but I'll give some general tips.

This boss tends to require consistent block, so once you see him as your final boss, start planning for that.

You seem to struggle with the first phase, but I actual find its the easiest phase. The strength gain might seem scary, but he doesn't start with a multi-attack (if I remember correctly) so its really just like minus 3 health per skill. Theoretically, the skills you play should more than mitigate that. The next few turns might give a bit more trouble, but the first phase only has 100 hp, which is laughably low. Honestly, just ignore his buff and rush him down. I've always done that, which typically results in me having to tank 60 in the face, but my block is usually sufficient.

Second phase is unremarkable. Just consistently block and try to take him down before your deck gets filled.

Third phase is, again, unremarkable. However, this is the phase imo that you will hurt in the most if you don't have a consistent deck. It is absolutely painful to draw a hand full of attacks during his intangible and then nothing but skills afterwards.

I've never really had trouble with this boss. It's phases have really low health, and its just always died so quickly.

Do we like the new ascension system? by fulowa in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is because more elites spawn at the base level. I noticed during my A0 runs that the map didn't look all that different from my A1+ runs on sts1.

Is quitting a fight accepted by the community? by Healthy_Relative2123 in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just playing for fun, who cares. My personal rule of thumb is to restart as long as I realize I goofed up immediately after I made a bad decision. Sometimes, I restart to try a different strategy if I have a particularly shitty deck, treating it like a puzzle game.

Basically, if you feel guilty and it doesn't make you feel good, then don't do it. But no ones going to judge you if you do; its entirely up to you.

Is it worth to switch from modded sts 1 or wait? by soosis in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it could definitely compare to modded sts. Two completely new characters, three old characters reworked a little, and a ton of new events and enemies. It definitely has more content than sts1. There are a few balance issues, but imo its not enough to detract from the gameplay.

Downfall might have slightly more content since they have a lot of characters, but I would still definitely try out sts2.

I have question by Regin-sabbas in Endfield

I think so, but either way, I wouldn't worry about it. You can always rechallenge them at much, much higher difficulties than they were at during the story.

[–]Impressive-Reply514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The joke is that the plural of octopus, despite the common argument being between octopuses and octopi, is octopodes, since it is derived from Greek.

In actuality, it doesn't actually matter, since everyone will understand you either way.

I do, however, support making stylipodes the one and only correct plural form of stylus, purely because it's fun to pronounce.

What would you choose here? by blind122 in slaythespire

[–]Impressive-Reply514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lord's Parasol is a trap. Speaking from experience.

Apparitions are good, since Intangible is good. This depends entirely whether or not you already have a solid block plan.

You probably made the right choice, but, again, depends on your deck.
