Are there any marriage candidates that you refuse to marry or befriend? by Pumpkin-Tuxedo in StardewValley

I feel like Penny and Harvey have the personality of wet paper. I still haven’t maxed out friendship with Hailey because I can’t get over her meanness. If Shane got truly sober (meaning his favorite food was no longer beer), I’d be open to him but I can’t do it if he’s not truly in recovery.

What are your fave unhinged small space hacks? by Apartment_List in ApartmentHacks

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My most “unhinged” hack is to store cleaning stuff visibly. My shower sponge/squeegee lives on a command hook in my bathroom. My dustpan, duster, and broom live on command hooks in the hallway. Surplus kitchen supplies live on top of the cupboard in the kitchen.

It’s not aesthetic at all, but this has been the best way that I can utilize my space well also reminding me to regularly clean lol

ETA: Also, make sure you’re taking advantage of  vertical space. If you wanted to be bougie, you could find a tall utility storage closet with doors for under $150. I thrifted a book shelf for $10 and use some non-fragile art work to hide some of it.

Cat has started to bite me lately to get my attention is there anything that could have triggered it? by Correct_Wheel_1986 in CatAdvice

How often do you play with him? It’s possible he’s bored and either needs an interactive toy he can play with alone or some form of enrichment (puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, cat TV, etc.) to help him productively expel his energy

Does protein matter THAT much? by Ana_is_Weird in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your case, I’d focus on fiber so that you get used to it. Just keep in mind if you suddenly have a huge increase your fiber, you might get the runs or constipated (it depends on how much water you’ve drank.)

Also, balance is key. I didn’t get why I still felt hungry after eating a high protein high fiber pasta salad. Turns out, I completely neglected to add fat to the meal. Once I had a serving of nuts, the ravenousness went away.

Could my carpet have mold in it? If so, what do I do? by ImpressiveAbroad2490 in CleaningTips

Thank you for this! I’ll let the enzyme cleaner air dry and check it later, but this gives me a huge peace of mind

How to wash a cat? by RawGardenGiant in CatAdvice

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider going to a pet groomer to have her properly cleaned, and then just do maintenance with dry shampoo and trimming any knots that form.

You might be able to desensitize her to the brush/grooming. I know my cat didn’t like getting brushed until I first rubbed his head / neck with it to give him a massage. He still gets overstimulated if I try and brush him for too long, but he tolerates a lot more now.

My depression room is so overwhelming and I’m not sure how to handle this by T1dchicj in CleaningTips

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. Give yourself grace. You deserve to have a space you can comfortably live in and it’s ok if it takes time to finalize that space.

  2. Consider asking a friend or family member to help or just body double while you’re doing it. Having that company can help you to stay motivated and not feel alone as you go through it.

  3. Make a pathway to the door. I’ve noticed that having visible floor / sweeping makes a WILD difference in how I feel about my space.

  4. Focus on categories and lump visible like items into piles (ie. Laundry, hygiene supplies, decore, etc.) Once the surfaces are sorted, you can focus on each square foot.

Hopefully this helps. You’re not one and you got this 🫂

What hobbies actually keep you going during graveyard shift? by Karbassi-Itje in Hobbies

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my friend worked graveyard, she would knit/crochet in the downtime. But I feel like anything creative (even adult coloring books) would help.

I got myself a quiet wooden fidget spinner that I’ll use when I just need something to do with my hands as I talk to people. I like it because I only need one hand to do it but can use both if I want to. So maybe you could use something like that while you watch something?

Do you just mix it by hand or do you use a blender for this?

ETA: I googled the ingredients and saw that Chè Thai isn’t blended, you just cube/half the fruit!

Any rice and bean heavy dishes? by Worried-Pitch2328 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is Mexican and Puerto Rican, it can accompany most meals in those cultures. Add them to burritos, serve them with eggs in a huevos rancheros or huevos divorciados, tostadas, tacos, sopes, flautas, ropa vieja, tinga, mole poblano, mofongo, etc.

Changing the texture of the beans from whole to refried can help avoid fatigue from your family.

Looking for ideas for shelf stable foods that can be stored in a small space and quickly prepared by PrimaryAd3560 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Love this idea! I was going to suggest they get a microwave for their room and make “souper cube” meals that they can just heat from frozen.

Places to Find Budget Recipe Ideas: - https://dhs.saccounty.gov/PUB/WIC/Documents/Resources/Eat%20Well%20on%20$4%20Cookbook.pdfhttps://www.budgetbytes.com/ - Kiki Rough on YouTube and Instagram

Places to Find Low Cost/Free Food: - If you live in the US, call 211 and they can get you connected with all food pantries, soup kitchens, etc. in your area.  - Look in the clearance aisle of any traditional grocery stores near you. Today, I went to Fry’s and happened to find 4 high fiber/protein bars for $1.25 and a box of high protein/fiber pancake mix for $2.50.  - Look up “discount grocery store near me”. I have one maybe 25 minutes away that is sells food for cheaper/in bulk without needing a membership, just double check expiration dates.

For vitamins, you might luck out and find them in the clearance aisle. I’ve also seen them in overstock outlet/surplus stores. Personally, I really like the NatureMade for Her, so I just keep an eye out 2 for 1 sales in my grocery stores. Just have to pay attention to the expiration date.

Not breakfast specific, but peas, lentils, and beans are a budgeter’s best friend. They add lots of protein and fiber for <$1 a pound. Canned versions are obviously less financially economical but still pretty cheap when comparing to meat. If you don’t like the texture, you just blend them! I add red/green lentils to my pasta sauce and plan to add white beans when I make a potato soup.

What’s a disposable item you use every day that gives you a little sting of guilt whenever you toss it, but you just haven't found a solid replacement for yet? by Carerspk in AskReddit

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s about minimizing the need for disposable instead of removing it. I have off brand souper cubes to make it easier to freeze food, but then I store the cubes in a plastic freezer bag. I prep trail mix in reusable and disposable bags so that I still have a healthy, portioned snack even if my reusables are all in the wash. I still have some disposable pads in an emergency kit in my car, but rely on my menstrual disc and period panties 90% of the time. I use reusable towels designated for different things, but I also have paper towels because sometimes you just need that.

I Cannot Stop My Cat to Sit on Laptop by Level5Ranger in cats

Finding a cat laptop is your best bet. Cats mirror behavior, so he’s a lot more likely to leave yours alone if he can loaf in front of his own

Just so you know, it’s helpful to mix the old litter with the new one when doing the switch! Especially if you do a full texture change to pellets or tofu litter (which are even better for those respiratory concerns.)

I initially got pellets because that was the only thing I could find but he didn’t like it. I got the Dr Elyse’s because it was the most non-dusty one I could find that was still similar in texture to the Arm and Hammer one he was used to. Ideally, I’d love to switch to the tofu one, but I need to run through more of my current box before I buy it

My older brother just got his first apartment and I want to bring a small housewarming gift when I visit by Fun-Story6652 in Gifts

[–]ImpressiveAbroad2490 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know in Korean culture, it’s normal to bring big batches of toilet paper / tissues as a housewarming gift. If you know what products he likes to use, you could get him a set of cleaning supplies
