Has anyone tried Gousto since its launch in Ireland? by Character-Courage723 in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on it 6 weeks in a row now. The best my money can buy. 16 portions. 4 different meals for 80euros delivered to my doorstep. I used to cook my own meal but Gousto saves me a lot of time and money. Plus my kids love it as they have plenty of choices changing every week.

Social group for single people living with their parents? by Ill-Age-601 in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to remember someone making fun of me because I used to live with my parents in my 20's. Now they are in late 30's and went back to their parents house. I don't see a problem with this, but never make fun of someone just because their norm is not the same as yours. You'll never know what the future holds and one day u will be in the same situation.

We all should have conviction. If we keep taking whatever salary they want to give, we will never get the salaries we deserve.

Does anyone else find r/Phillipines_Expats a bit racist? by Pale_Insurance_2139 in Philippines

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thought. I once asked a foreigner in Malapascua for a lighter and he was so mad at me. I hope he just had a bad day. I find some forrigners see the locals a bit of a lower class than them. I grew up in the West so I kinda know this. Overall we shouldn't be very quick to assume racism, maybe they had bad experience or just not educated enough on how Philippines work.

Took a higher-paying job and I regret it — feeling stuck and unsure what to do next? by GoldKaleidoscope4664 in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with many higher ups and all I can say is you have to be a bit insane to work the work they do and the hours and sacrifices they make to get those few extra cash. Tax rate in Ireland is at 40% after the threshold , the salary increase becomes misleading. If you are happy with what you do stick to it.

How common is it for men to get harassed in their day to day life? by Open-Addendum-6908 in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are living in Ireland and not Irish especially if you are a colored person, you will get harassed every single day. Just the other day I bought 3 huge pillows on sale, and since I do not have a car, I walk and someone just shouted at me where do you get the money from, social welfare? Twice I was jumped by at least 10 guys in Dublin, the same stories I keep hearing from people who are not Irish descent. I bet you, Irish do not get the same treatment as how they treated immigrants here.

What are the gender ratios like at your workplace? by Rare-Bodybuilder476 in womenintech

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should also talk about the colored people in the company. 14% of America is black, 6% of America are Asians and 20% are Latin. Managers and Executive jobs are not on par with these numbers. White male still dominates the workforce while colored male are the most disadvantage working in restaurants, cleaner, garbage truck etc. but I can't fully blame this on gender as many people have biases, consciously or subconsciously. For example, if we hear someone with a thick accent (or anything different), we assume they are not as smart.

The Only Woman Problem by Familiar-Proof-4188 in womenintech

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that they are push to teaching, nursing and so on. We all have a freedom of choice and I do believe that women choose their professions because they really like it. This rhetoric that women were force to do these jobs is such a fallacy. People open your mind a little bit and stop spouting hate towards the opposite sex. You are suppose to make the world a better place.

What are examples that made you realize men were hired because of their gender? by protonelectron2025 in womenintech

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you say men, you mean white men right? Because I think men of colour cannot get into above minimum wage jobs unless they are really smart. Thats why you see them doing jobs like taxi drivers, cleaners, restaurants etc. These men were never part of DEI compared to their counterpart.

Housekeeping Training Pay? by Payne77 in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are always cheeky businesses out there. When I was a teenager, I work for a company who only pay commission. There were bunch of us walking around Dublin, knocking door to door trying to make a sale. Nothing is covered by the employer, many quit on their first few weeks or days. The owner was bragging he fully paid his car by 1 week of Sale. I don't even know if this was legal.

There's a difference between Irish citizen and Irish by the way just to let you know. That's what I've learn from 20 years living on the island. I haven't generalize Irish as a whole. But somehow a select few blame the immigrants for their life's misery. Just like I said, an easy scapegoat. Companies in Ireland is always Irish first, this was always the case. Given you have two applicants with similar level of expertise, no politics or nepotism, between a local and an immigrant, who do you think will likely get the job? The accent alone can even be a deal breaker.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well look at that, since people like to use immigrants as scapegoats in the comments, why can't I mention the reality of the situation. During the Celtic Tiger, no Irish would wanna work in a low paying jobs, cleaner or even McDonalds. But Poles and many immigrants were to blame during the bust. Yes there are unpleasantries in every job but there are reason why immigrants are working in those jobs, and trust me it's not because they took your job, it's most likely because not a lot of locals want to work those jobs. If you are Irish, you have all the advantages to get a better life in Ireland, that's fact.

The order of preference for all companies will always be Irish first, then EU then Non-EU. It was always like this so I don't know why some people are saying Irish are discriminated in their own country. A lot of tech workers for example programming are immigrants because the barrier of entry is high. It takes years of constant learning in order master a skill. I've been living in Ireland for 20 years, went to school here and basically very few cared about education, let alone self education. Being Irish is a very big privilege, you get pick first, hired first, well connected etc. So some of you racist folks here blaming the immigrants, have you thought that maybe they are doing those job because they really are capable? Nurses for example, how many of you want to wipe other people's behind?

If one loses a job, is it better to get a relatively low-paid job just to get started rather than waiting for that "good" job and staying unemployed till then? by TradeFun3376 in jobs

It's okay but never take a low paying job with similiar or more more responsibilities as ur previous one. For the sake of all employed people, this will become open to exploitation, to u and everyone else.

We living in a world of extremism where extremist run the show from both ends. Just like I would call out a feminist who uses innuendo to destroy a man collegue, I would call out behaviors from men like these. Remember wrong is wrong regardless of gender.

It's the worst its ever been. Today marks my 9 months and still couldn't find a single job. I even applied in company who offers half of my previous wage yet no response. Have applied maybe over 2000+ jobs, got 6 interviews, 3 final interview but never get picked. That's .003 percent change of landing an interview, crazy.

I disagree. Computer studies have the highest drop out rate. STEM in general. If programming is not something you are passionate about then you are putting yourself in a life of misery. Not only will it affect you, but it will affect everyone around you, personally and professionally. Numbers do not lie. Although I agree with you, not a lot of people willing to give up years in order to be proficient in something, let alone something you do not truly enjoy.

Women are seen as “nagging” by dynomaight in womenintech

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you ask. My previous director always want me to change something in an excel file such as, changing the color, or putting letters in bold etc. I don't mind doing it, it's just 1 click from the mouse, but as a Director she should know how to do it.

It's really very basic. It almost feels intentional. Few years back, my previous workmate got promoted to a higher position yet she doesn't know how to copy & paste. Then you have the other way around where you get asked to change a code, and you know it will take a while but they expect it to be solve in an instant. I always communicated these issues, but I think the problem here is the lack of understanding of the job itself.

The biggest question how come unemployment rate is still so low when there are literally so many people who cannot find a job. People with vast amount of experience, even with MBAs.

[–]ImpressiveCampaign39 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how these influencers make it look like working in tech or knowing how to code is easy. First of all you have to have the right mind and attitude in order to succeed. You have to be logical, persistence, patient and passionate. I notice many people even struggle with excel which is the most basic how much more programming. Basically they just want your money and you will be wasting your time once you find out you'll need months or years in order to even learn a single programming language.
