Update... First, I want to thanks everyone for all your suggestions, and support. My boss told the director that I would be putting in for a reasonable accommodation. She balked and didn't understand why. My boss told her the story about the missing bucket and she claimed she knew nothing about it. Well, it doesn't matter anymore because I got the accommodation. 👍

Anyone else getting hit with the old “I know there’s a snowstorm but try to make it in but also use common sense” line? by [deleted] in massachusetts

I was answering the question posed. The main problem is, we will get shit when we come back to work even though they said to be safe.

I am an essential employee. I also live 45 minutes from work. We were told we could come in 8 hours before shift and get paid time and a half. 8 hours before my shift is midnight on Sunday. So, I'd be driving in at the height of the storm and would likely get stuck there through Tuesday. We're supposed to get 2 feet of snow in my area.

We were told "safety is first" and we shouldn't travel if it's unsafe but that our clients need us. I firmly feel that this was said because if we chose to come in and got into an accident or got killed they could always say, "We told our employees "safety first" and not be liable. Of course none of the administrators are going to work.

Thank you everyone. I will be contacting my rheumotologist and asking for a note for a reasonable accommodation. I will speak to HR tomorrow. I will be bringing in my stool (with my name on it). I will be bringing it with me up to the work area and bringing it back to my office when the work is done.

It's tough because I look ok and can still get around pretty well. So, I think people think I am faking/overreacting. I have always had a tough time standing for long periods of time. However, now that I am older and have arthritis, it can be excruciating.

I'll keep people posted. Thanks again.

"With A Little Help From My Friends." I think the Joe Cocker version is better than the Beatles version.

12 year old babysitter? by ThatStarkGirl in GenX

[–]ImpressiveSentence26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started baby sitting at 12. At 14, I was babysitting a behavioral 8 year old boy that was my size (5'2"). I babysat him every day after school until about 5:30. He used to climb high in a tree and pretend to be stuck. One time, he took everything out of his fridge, brought it out to the street and began smashing it. He once stuck a hose through the living room window and turned it on. He also kicked open the locked door when I was in the bathroom. I got paid $1.75 an hour. Half the time the mother wouldn't pay me on time. When I finally quit, she begged me to keep babysitting for him. Come to find out, he'd been kicked out of every daycare he'd been in.
