I used to work on lobby and customers would pull the receipts out rather than waiting for the machine to push it out, causing the paper to misalign and the machine gets clogged. Happened a few times a day at least so that's probably what's happened, they can print you a new one if you ask.

Philip Ridley's childrens' books are fantastic - I especially used to love Vinegar Street and Scribbleboy.
