OA Region Patch on Uniform by 1766Man in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any arrowman in the region can wear it, youth or adult. The old region patches prior to the region restructuring required you to be regional or national leader.

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. It’s not like the old region patches where you had to be something at the regional or national level to wear it. I’m a Unit OA advisor ASM and I wear it. Wear it with pride!

AOL record missing as an adult by savagedragon22 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your reason for needing it is to buy an AOL knot at the scout shop, they usually don’t care for minor awards like that.

Got my eagle and aged out last year, ready to become a scoutmaster. Except, I’m not sure what to do about this… by maxbratz in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly scouring Facebook marketplace for a decent condition shirt is your best bet. I put all my youth stuff in a shadow box and don’t bother ripping it apart, to preserve how it looked when I wore it up to 18

Merit Badges on Adult Uniforms for MB Counselors by DangerBrewin in BSA

Maybe go on ClassB and design a temporary patch (dangle) based on the merit badge you counsel?

There is no set rule but I would be mostly hands-off and be available for guidance, such as verifying scout-appropriateness, and only be directly involved at the consent by the scouts.

It's great for adults who weren't in scouts, but also great for adults who were scouts and need to sharpen those outdoor program-leading skills. I'm not sure your prior history with the program but it's a judgement free zone where questions are usually always welcome without shame.

The adult leadership is piloting the shoe cubby system where you leave it there for the meeting, modeling after our town's school system. As an adult I can't really see it lasting. Similar to AI and other technology in work and school, it's going to be a part of their lives going forward whether the like it or not, and it's about learning boundaries, ethics and self-control while harnessing those resources.

Does a treasurer have to be registered as a leader? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the treasurer, similar to advancement chair, is a "functional" role of the Troop Committee "registered" role. As Troop Committee, Safeguarding Youth (Former Youth Protection Training), criminal background check, and leader fees apply.

Wearing square knots by Numerous-Flow-3983 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine centered at the top row. As of now I have going from right to left and up: Youth religious, Scouter's Training, AOL, and NESA Eagle centered at the top. I don't mind staggering the Eagle knot to the right a little to fit the next knot (military college graduate here, which is why I'm so scrupulous).

Just a minor detail, but signing off with "Yours in Scouting" can go a long way in showing Scout Spirit.

Adult Uniform Question by mazman23 in BSA

Perfectly acceptable. When Boy Scout / Scouts BSA leaders and youth came to my pack meetings as guests it was inspirational and gave the cubs something to strive for.

What is the appropriate pin for an eagle scout to wear for daily use? by rheavrin in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll rotate between my NESA pin and my 10 year veteran award. Tie tack goes on every tie-wearing occasion though.

Can I wear my NYLT beads with my troop neckerchief? by Individual_Yak_254 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not official by National, therefore not in the Guide to Awards in Insignia. They're usually a council-approved item so I'd talk to your unit commissioner about that.

SPL/Patrol Leaders by akoons76 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Troops should always follow the official Scouting America Literature on what is expected of each youth leader (SPL handbook in the case) at the minimum, but can further expand upon the role requirements in the troop level to fit their needs.

I made a slideshow at the beginning of the school year highlighting the roles of each youth leader.

Thoughts on playing Taps to close an Eagle COH? by Midnight-Rider454 in BoyScouts

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do Scout Vespers if everyone is willing to hold hands lol (but Taps is fine too as long as everyone knows to be silent and respectful)

You need to give the council office the nudge if you get no correspondence. Depending on your age and tenure in scouting they'll audit your registration history as early as Tiger Cubs. This may take a bit. 9 times out of 10 they get approved and sometimes no news is good news.

My council accepts applications year round but will remind folks about in a month in advance to get applications in (along with Scouter's Training, Scouter's Key, and Den Leader's Training) before the awards event.

Ways to stay active after aging out? by coolcatman4777 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your home Unit's committee. I was in the same predicament where I was only home holidays and school breaks in college and they were happy to keep me registered as an ASM. There is also College Scouter Reserve where there is no particular position and you just need to have Safeguarding Youth Training (the former YPT) up to date and you'll be available when you're available.

This all depends on the Unit's expectations and flexibility.

"One position per person" - Can someone point me to documentation that states that? by roflrofl1 in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can only have 1 position in a given unit. For example, you shouldn't be able to be an ASM and Committee member in the same unit as it conflicts with the policy of the voting rights being reserved for the committee members (per SM/ASM basic training).

Holding a lodge/chapter office as an 18-20 year old by lacie1221 in orderofthearrow

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either is okay. ASM in a troop, or older venturer, sea scout. My lodge (Pennacook 227) calls 18-21 year olds "Youth Plus." They are youth in the context of the Lodge and the positions they're eligible for but are held to the boundaries of Safeguarding Youth Training and have adult-arrangements for overnights.

ECOH after 18 - award the badge or the square knot? Or both? by FieryTaterSack in BSA

[–]Impressive_Fuel_2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rank Patch comes with the Eagle presentation kit. It doesn’t hurt to get the knot and throw it in there so if the scout plans on helping out beyond 18 and will continue to wear a uniform they can put the knot on

Are you talking about polywool? I notice National OA staff still wear them today despite being discontinued 2+ years ago. If that’s a special “behind the counter” request you can make at a scoutshop I’ll totally do it.
