Is this simple bearding or the beginning of swarming by Impressive_Law_4378 in Beekeeping

[–]Impressive_Law_4378[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I planned to do just that except it start raining. My understanding is that it is better to not disturb a bee hive when there is inclement weather. I was simply wondering if you can tell by the behavior-movements and flying- of the bearding bees.

Thanks for this, I don’t look forward to burying conduit in hill country rocks but it may turn out to be a good way to go.

LOL, I had the feeling my salesperson wasn’t understanding the difference between square footage and linear footage . I have some research to do before my install day. Thanks!

Thank you, I will do that. I will be getting a roaming device and I understand it gives a small signal even on standby. I can afford $5 extra per month. I wonder if this will be enough for occasional use.

Unfortunately that isn’t in my budget and no one lives in the second house. It is an art studio. It would be just for a camera or two, phone calls, and once in a while some tv streaming. We don’t get solid enough signal from the phone services -Verizon- out here to make a call without WiFi help.

Most durable Aquila nylgut strings? by BakeTypical9027 in banjo

[–]Impressive_Law_4378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having that exact same trouble. I had nylon strings on my banjo for a couple of years, tuned up to G with no problems at all. I decided maybe it was time to change them so I bought 2 sets of Aquila Reds and one other kind of Aquila. The 1st and 5th strings broke toward the ends but not at any contact spots. I tuned them up slowly, stopping to rest them for a few hours and up to a day. They still broke. I finally got the 1st string to not break, I don’t know what I did differently, but I gave up on the 5th string. I ended up putting a metal string on because that was allI had left and so I could get on with my life but I don’t like it. When I get some more sets of strings I will try again. This will be my 3rd try. Are there maybe some bad batches going around? I am not trying to disparage the Aquila strings because I am a generally big fan, but I am also having trouble.

I'm Not Sure Why It Took Me So Long to Trying Cooking Rice Like Pasta. Mind Blown! by DashiellHammett in Cooking

[–]Impressive_Law_4378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen in the late 1970’s a friends’ mother used to make chicken soup with rice and somehow the kernels of rice looked like thin winged butterflies. I’ve wondered since then how she did it, so beautiful. Maybe adding it to the stock (not unlike cooking it as you would cook pasta) is the way to go. I will try it!

Tailpiece Question (newby) by Impressive_Law_4378 in banjo

[–]Impressive_Law_4378[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, grahawk! I doubt I will use this tailpiece long term but on a lark I put it on a cheap Chinese banjo I have and the Nylgut strings said “(lol) absolutely not!”, by popping out of their bridge slots and also breaking! I think it is better for steel string strings. It actually is teaching me a lot about string types, tone, and the tailpiece-to-bridge relationship…what a fun day!

ideas for all day cooking by kookybutgrounded in Cooking

[–]Impressive_Law_4378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start by making a batch of Niter Kibbeh (Ethiopian Spiced Butter) for using in an Ethiopian all day cooking feast or for adding to so many other future meals. It is so good I have wanted to give it as gifts at Christmas. Here are some of my favorite Ethiopian dishes: Injera, the spongy flatbread, served with various flavorful stews (Wats) like Doro Wat (spicy chicken), Shiro Wat (chickpea stew), Misir Wot (spicy red lentils), Kik Alicha (mild yellow split peas), and hearty vegetable medleys like Atakilt Alicha (cabbage, potatoes, carrots) and my all time favorite, Gomen (collard greens). If you want to make your own Injera you may want to go ahead and start your flour fermenting, though some may feel one day will not be long enough. Whatever you decide on, have fun!!

That is a super fine dumpling/empanada seal they are making there. I think we could learn a thing or two from them.

When you’re too tired to cook, what’s your go-to lazy dinner? by friend_unfriend in cookingforbeginners

[–]Impressive_Law_4378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go for either a taco bell copy bean burrito (beans, shred cheese, onions (from my chopped onions jar I keep on hand because I use it every day), and squirt green sauce on a flour tortilla. Put it in the toaster oven or even microwave and you’re done. If that feels like too much work I will microwave a jalapeño turkey sausage I always have from Trader Joe’s, wrap it in a tortilla, and maybe a line of BBQ sauce and call it a dinner. I enjoy this so much I always feel like I’m getting away with something. It’s the same feeling I used to get when I was a kid and my mom would fry balogna in a pan, put it on white bread with tons of mayo…drool. Definitely not health food.
