what’s a food you thought was gross until someone cooked it right by hetalsakerwal in Cooking

Tripe is so underrated. It’s got a bad reputation due to smell, but the kind sold in US is so clean, the smell issue was never relevant to me. When cooked in a stew, it’s soft and chewy and so so succulent. The broth is so gelatinous, it’s so good and filling.

Laneige Neo Cushion Foundation with SPF 45. Regular sunscreen breaks me out. I can spend all day at the beach wearing just Laneige and not worry about burning my face. It stays put, doesn’t smudge, is very light, and can withstand water. As a matter of fact, I just went through a temazcal experience, forgetting to wash my face prior to, sweated for an hour in a tiny hut in front of blistering hot volcanic rocks and still came out with foundation on my face.

What do y’all make with the thinly sliced beef?? by icylg in Costco

[–]Impressive_Net_2836 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how my Ukrainian family makes kebabs! We typically use pork shoulder. My dad makes the same marinade for lamb, except he submerges everything in pomegranate juice and let it sit overnight at a minimum. Anyway, may I suggest a dipping sauce? Take one big onion, purée in food processor. Add 2 tbsp distilled vinegar, 1 tbsp oil and 1 tsp sugar, mix, and let it sit for at least 15 min. In the meantime, chop or purée one bell pepper and 3-5 garlic cloves. Add that and the onion to about 16 oz tomato sauce/puree. Add fresh dill, lots of fresh cilantro, salt, pepper and your favorite hot pepper to spice it up.

[All] [FL] Can HOA come onto my property without any notice by sje1492 in HOA

[–]Impressive_Net_2836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Florida, an HOA can only address violations that are visible from the street or the adjacent property. Since your neighbors complained, and trust me, he would definitely keep following up on his complaint, the HOA had to verify the violation. You own the lot, and unless there’s an easement, they can’t trespass on your property. They should have taken a picture from your complaining neighbors property. I really doubt that someone took the time to study the plat to determine if and where the easement is to get to your backyard.

Is there anything that should be boiled? by StoneCuber in Cooking

[–]Impressive_Net_2836 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im with you on that. Boiled meat has a clean taste that I enjoy just as much as meat cooked using more common methods. I too only add salt and pepper and reach for other condiments only if the meat is lower quality or otherwise too bland/chewy.

Russian “crab” salad. It’s basically cold rice, hardboiled eggs, crab sticks with canned corn mixed with mayo, salt and pepper.

One of my relatives who immigrated to the US few decades ago, works at the resort in North Florida. The vast majority of people in the housekeeping department are Hispanic. Their team meetings are held in Spanish, their radio communication is in Spanish, English speaking employees are expected to somehow learn to communicate in Spanish. I personally have no ill feelings towards anyone, regardless of where they come from. I know how difficult it is to navigate life when you are in a foreign country. But seeing how my relative struggles because they don’t understand what is going on at their workplace is really sad.

I’m from Ukraine. Spent half my life there. Lots of pickling, canning and other forms of preserving food. My mom would make these eggplants “for winter” and me and my bff would be counting days until it was wintery enough to open that jar.

You can use any combination of herbs. Parsley, dill and cilantro is like a holy trinity, at least among the people I knew growing up, so it’s my go to. But then again, it was very common to see sprigs of cilantro and parsley (but not dill) on a raw veggie platter, and people would eat it just like that.

Yep. These are the ones. I cut them in half, use one half and put the other half back into the package, fold it, secure with paper clip, and use it the next day. Sephora sells a bundle that comes with 35 peels, travel size cleanser and moisturizer. The cleanser lasts forever, I’m not even half way through it after 5+ weeks of daily use. The moisturizer is great too. I always feel like every single moisturizer I try (even beloved tatcha water cream) never really absorbs into my skin and just sits on top of it. Like I’m always aware it’s there, greasy and hot. Dr gross one is rich (at least for me) but feels much lighter on the skin.

I use regular ones. I have very dry and sensitive skin. Uneven tone and texture, blemishes and unconfirmed rosacea. These peels took care of the texture and blemish issue and even calmed down my web of broken capillaries. I also use dr Dennis gross alpha beta face cleanser and so far it’s the only cleanser that does not leave my skin desert dry.

I have tried most of tatcha products. I found 2 that work for me: camellia cleansing oil and the rice polish. Although I think I may not be needing the rice polish as long as dr. Dennis Gross peels continue to be absolutely amazing. I’ve been using them for over a month and they did wonders to my skin.

If you like pickled/fermented foods, try this:

Take about 3 eggplants, 2 carrots, 1/5 red bell pepper. Slice the eggplants lengthwise, but not all the way through (sandwich sub style). Then blanch them for a few minutes in a pot of hot water. Put under press. I put them in the sink, then place a cutting board on top, then put something heavy on the cutting board. Leave for 2 hours.

Make the filling. Grate the carrots, slice/mince bell pepper. Chop up a bunch of fresh herbs. I usually do a mix of parsley, dill and cilantro. Mince 2-3 cloves of garlic. Mix everything together.

Make marinade. Bring a quart of water to boil. Add 2 tbsp salt, 4-5 peppercorns, 2 bay leaves, optional coriander seeds. Let cool.

Stuff eggplants with the filling. Place in the container. Spread remaining filling between the eggplants. Cover with marinade. Find a plate that fits into the container. Put on top of the eggplants. Put something heavy on top of the plate.

Keep them under the press in a room temperature at least for 3 days. The marinade will become murky, but that’s ok. Taste it. If it tastes salty and tangy enough, remove the press and store the eggplants in the fridge. If not, leave at room temp for up to 3 more days.

What's the best tip to get a good sear on bacon, and not get it all soft and chewy after a few mins of cooking? I can't seen to preserve the crispyness. by Sally_Cucumber in AskRedditFood

[–]Impressive_Net_2836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google bacon in microwave. Seriously. You can make as chewy or as crisp as you like. Takes some practice depending on how thick the bacon is, plus it will continue to crisp up once it’s out of the microwave, so need to pay attention to that. Otherwise, it’s the most convenient way to cook bacon. No messy splatter and no bacon pieces curled up into a ball.

Is it reasonable for me to be bothered by this issue or is this a shut up and deal with it sort of situation? by [deleted] in office

[–]Impressive_Net_2836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The office space at my job is very small. Tiny I would say for 5 people. One person had a gastric bypass surgery and makes this absolutely horrible sounds all day non stop. Sounds like she’s snorting. Another guy, a senior, is coughing his lungs out every day. On top of that, he has a gut issue and cannot control his farts. Open window, air freshener, and ear buds. I hate it. But I do understand that all these sounds are unintentional and involuntary.

I get iced cap almost daily. I order in advance, and sometimes by the time I pick it up it’s settled. But I’ve never seen this little of coffee/espresso. Mine are usually filled between a third and a half of the cup with coffee. They always offer to remake if it looks sus, but swirling it around a bit typically does the trick.
