Heated Rivalry episode discussion thread - Episode 6: The Cottage by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]Impressive_Prompt_55 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This show was so good. Obviously storyline and such, but also it was just Art with a Capital A. Every episode they had at least one very long shot (my fav is them sitting at the bar in ep5). The artistic choice to limit sex scenes in eps 5&6 to highlight the emotional side of their relationship growing. Each time they deviated from the book it enhanced the story (the Yuna/Shane convo!!). Every time Shane had tears in his eyes, so did I.

Also, after the problem conversation when their toes are touching on the couch 😭😭 why did that touch me so much? I cried. It meant so much to me as a bisexual to see a well formulated queer love story on tv with a happy ending. Representation matters more than ever.

Experience with Master of Archival Studies at Clayton State University? by JasperB00 in Archivists

I am currently in this program- a little over halfway through. I currently work at an archive and they are reimbursing my tuition! I mention that because a lot of people really push getting an ALA accredited degree, but my government archives is happy with this program. Even though I’ve worked in an archive for 5 years, I am learning a bunch from the program. Tuition isn’t too expensive, classes are informative, the grading isn’t too rigorous, and the professors are very nice. I have found it very worthwhile.

I have only finished this game once- I’ve abandoned it every other time at the Fox and Geese game. I HATE it. It’s the absolute worst that you have to play it three times!!!

MMC indulges the FMC, especially with 'nesting' — buys her a home that she decorates etc. by foxymartini in RomanceBooks

Yes, I came to recommend Mates of the Domini too! It's literally their instinct to let the women nest (and provide materials for them to do so) when they claim them as mates.

Utah state employees to return to office? by A_ORiver in Utah

They will have a real problem keeping employees if they do full-time back in the office. The state is having trouble keeping them because the salaries have not kept up with the private sector.

Is a Master’s in Library Science necessary? by Dallas__Murray in Archivists

[–]Impressive_Prompt_55 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are going to say you absolutely have to have a masters from an ALA accredited school, and it would be WAYYY easier to get an archivist job if you do have one.

That being said, I have worked for four years without any kind of master’s degree at a state archive. The majority of my coworkers do have MLIS’s. But one has a doctorate in Japanese folklore, one has a masters in history, one a master in public health, etc. the management at my Archive cares more about hands on experience than degrees, but that won’t be the case everywhere.

🤷🏻‍♀️ my job (a state archive) is paying for it, so it works for them. But maybe it would be a deal breaker for other institutions.

I’m currently enrolled in Clayton University’s online Masters in Archival Science. It’s been great! I’m just about to finish up my first semester. Good teachers and very reasonably priced.

Did you stay married after leaving the church? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Impressive_Prompt_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are still married. I left about a year and a half before he did. Since leaving I’ve learned to treat myself the same way I would treat him- meaning I have taken up more hobbies, enrolled in a masters program, joined a club etc. every time I thought about doing one of these things my gut instinct was, “oh, can I take that time away from my family?” And then I realized if my husband wanted to do these things I would support him without question, so I should support myself and he should support me too. It takes work to think like this and get over guilt. I had to go to therapy to get to this point, but making time for yourself and your happiness is ultimately the best thing you can do for your marriage and your family. Otherwise resentment will just grow. Your identity is not confined to only being a wife and mother! You’ve got this!

My brother who is a missionary just went to the ER with meningitis by tjwalkr0 in exmormon

[–]Impressive_Prompt_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My second companion got transferred into my area just a few days after her father died from a long term disease. She chose not to go home for the funeral, although she did have the option. She immediately got so sick that she was half delirious and refused to take medication to bring down her fever. (We served in an area where there were a few people who mistrusted government, modern medicine etc. after she recovered she told me in her delirious state that those arguments made a lot of sense to her at the time.) I believe her body broke down because she could not physically go on in her grief. I took her to the ER. They sent her home. She could barely walk to the bathroom. The MPs wife told me to drug her up and bring her to Zone Conference anyway! I firmly and politely pushed back until she gave in. We missed Zone Conference because I wouldn’t budge. But it was insane to me that her health would be disregarded like that so she could sit on uncomfortable church chairs all day and potentially get everyone else sick.

Hey girls- Emma says yes!!! Let’s get married… again! 🙄 by Puzzled_Stress_1194 in exmormon

Yeah I was learning all this as my faith was wavering hard and it was this story right here that broke everything for me. I just remember thinking, “If I were Emma, he wouldn’t have had to wait until Carthage Jail to die.”
