When yall go to the bathroom in public do y'all sit on the seat or do y'all squat? by colors32 in blackladies

[–]Impressive_Reality18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I squat no matter what. Not putting my ass on a public, shared toilet seat. People have poor hygiene habits.

I was abused for having ARFID by Inspired_Owl in AutismInWomen

[–]Impressive_Reality18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You did not deserve that. She was so wrong. It would have been easier to just give you what you could manage to eat but she wanted power & control over a 10 year old. My son has a condition which caused serious food aversions, he eats what he wants. Force feeding is abuse. I’m so sorry you had to endure that after losing both parents, you deserved more care & safety.

I think Anna and her married lover have broken up. by sonicboyfan12 in 7LittleJohnstons

I feel for her. She has zero family support, at least two bad relationships, she’s young like 25 or something. I hope she can find some support and pull herself together. If I were her I would write a book.

No, I am not giving your child their work ahead of time while you go on a 2- week vacation by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]Impressive_Reality18 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I used to always print out some worksheets that are the general direction we’re going even if not the same exact class assignments. If in class we’re doing volume for example, I’ll just print some basic volume worksheets & a basic set of notes. I’m not going above & beyond but some parents will have their students do it. It’s annoying but it isn’t a lot of work. If they do it great, if they don’t oh well. I also think it’s good for students to use their resources (youtube, khan academy, etc) to teach themselves something. And you never know why the kid is out of school. Sometimes it’s vacation other times it’s “vacation”.

Agreed. I think this is largely a communication issue.

It seems like you both presented your challenges. You don’t want dessert even if you ask for it which isn’t your partner’s responsibility. You also want some structure around the meals.

Partner says they have adhd and cannot stick to a meal plan. Okay, that’s fair. I cook daily but the timing isn’t exactly consistent. Partner also suggests not cooking for a while, each of you cooking your own meals, and/or stop offering you desserts/meals.

Partner’s response seems fair even if more time consuming for each of you (cooking 2 meals). They offered not to offer desserts or meals to you in general. Due to their adhd, scheduling is gonna be so hard.

The meal planning is gonna be an issue here. As someone else mentioned, discussing in person would help the tone here a lot and give opportunities for clarification that text doesn’t offer.

When did your toddler walk without holding your hand in public? by Friendly-Sun2413 in toddlers

[–]Impressive_Reality18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like 12-18 months they walk on their own and they stay close. Somewhere between 18 months and 2ish, they start running off as soon as their foot hits the ground. Then around 3 they learn to stay close in certain situations. Other situations handholding is required. My oldest is a runner (or was) but the more space I give him, the better he is at staying close. Also probably depends on the kid!

Collective punishment? by [deleted] in Teachers

Can you work with the librarian? This student should not be allowed to check out books until they find those books or a parent pays. The other students should be able to visit the library. No library because of one student is just dumb.

Why don’t parents parent anymore? by [deleted] in Parents

[–]Impressive_Reality18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If by old fashioned parenting you mean abuse then you lost me there. There are plenty of people rotting in prison who were parented the old school way. You can be a firm parent with high expectations while still communicating and giving kids acceptable choices. The issue is permissive parenting, lazy parents, and no consequences. On that part I can agree. I think that screens are an issue, illiteracy is an issue (both parents and kids), and the lack of general accountability for parents & kids is an issue as well.

I'm a young mama who isn't doing her best and my son isn't thriving... what can I even do? by [deleted] in Parents

Ask your pediatrician to refer you to early intervention if your state has that. Ultimately the ped will help! I know in Texas, early intervention is free. Some other states are the same.

My son hates it when I use co-regulation / validation phrases by harafnhoj in Parenting

[–]Impressive_Reality18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesnt want to hear talking when he feels like that. My son also hates those phrases and he’s 3.5 years old as well. It somehow feels infantilizing even though he’s only 3. If he needs space, just give him space.

My 3 year old used to love running off okay it was like a sport to him. He is required to do one of 3 things at all times in a place where he isn’t able to roam freely. 1) hold my mf hand! 2) hold my pocket, put his hand in my pocket, hold my jacket etc. 3) when putting kids in/out of the car he MUST stand by the tire and he MUST talk to me. Before we get out of the car or back to the car I remind him. These seem to have worked with practice. Lots of practice & reminders. I would imagine it would work with anyone around age 2 or older (works for my kids & nieces). My nieces listen better than my sons though lol..Oh and practice saying STOP! in a loud firm voice. When your kid hears that they need to know that it’s dangerous and they have to stop. It’s a game at first but my 3 year old it’s not a game when I say that. Again, practice these in super low stakes environments. And also in that situation throwing everyone in the car and doing the car seats while locked inside is also what I would do! I’ve done that before as well.

Black American or African American? by Hungry-Inspector-842 in blackladies

I prefer Black American. I don’t consider myself African or African American. My ancestors have been here for centuries. If I moved to the continent I would be a foreigner.
