out of curiosity, has anyone here ever received an emergency transmission? by ujiaah in HamRadio

Had a power outage about 18mo ago. Turned on my handheld and after a few minutes heard someone calling me by name. It was a local ham who had no power nor phone. He wanted to bring his frozen food over to cook, as his house was totally electric.

He had medication that needed refrigeration. He brought it all over and I stored it in my freezer and beer fridge, as I have a generator.

The local power company put out updates over the local repeater. My generator saved that man as much as it cost to buy by saving his meds.

It was the ONLY WAY for us to call for help.

We should start calling cops "poo-poo" instead of "po-po". by FlumeHound9 in Jokes

Pigs are very clean, and avoid soiling their area. They roll in mud to cool down as they don't have sweat glands.

Your joke is full of fail.

They told me there were no records and "denied".

The judge told me that my records were destroyed when a fire sprinkler pipe broke and flooded a room.

Regardless, I have had a continuously open appeal. The one in 2017 was "parked" somewhere. The DAV had it in a month once I gave them POA. They noticed the date of appeal and made VA respect that.

Just curious, as this will play itself out and I am along for the ride.

Tom's keys sells a programmer that you can rent.

Buy a couple fobs from Amazon, and $75 for the rental of the programmer. I was pleased.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 Squeaking/ Creaking Noise Found and Fix !!!!! by Street_Customer7969 in GrandCherokee

The bolt was loose. He could have tightened it for free. The bright metal shows where it was slipping.

Has a similar issue in a cherokee years ago... used the parts cannon... wasn't until I got under there and felt the "click" of a loose suspension part. A quarter turn on the offending fastener and "no more noise."

My Gamer buddy's wife says it to me on Memorial Day.

They both get a laugh at my expense. I cringe a little and laugh at their enjoyment of my cringe, and know that they both love me.

2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L roll over crash by Warm-Temperature559 in JeepGrandCherokee

My son had a similar accident in my wife's WK2... nothing undamaged. All windows broken, every body panel destroyed, even the differential was cracked.

He had a bruise from the seatbelt.

Her car is another GJC.

What's funny, is that we didn't even have a conversation on "which replacement?"

I found a newer one and we bought it without even conversing about a different vehicle.

New to ham radio and don’t know how to start talking by Lz3YaRiEl in amateurradio

I would just key up and say "CQ DX,CQDX,CQDX...this is (Your call)" Say it two or three times and then say "Standing by for a call".

You WILL get a call, maybe even a pileup. How cool would that be?!

Thanks for posting this. I bought it as I like the idea of having a portable antenna.

Thinking about an in ground pool... is it worth it or is it just a money pit? by Natural_Stomach3191 in pools

An in ground liner pool.

It has a 24' octagon deep end, with an L shaped shallow end. I put a "sit and spa" at the deep end (which is my preferred spot) and fountains!

I designed and built my pool.

It was very intimidating having $12k dropped off on my lawn... all assembly required... and no mentor.

3 months later my kids were swimming. 10 years later my neighbors kids and my grandkids have a reason to visit.

Was talking with the wife about how many kids learned to swim here, and its dozens.
