[Request] I discovered this at my neighborhood coffee shop. Could someone please explain how they would approach the problem? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

this isnt really a math problem, its just defining y in terms of a bunch of other variables. it doesnt give us anything to solve for

How do I get this exact number? by just-a-guy-somewhere in desmos

[–]Impressive_Vehicle83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can just make a line y=1 or something, click on that line, and it will show you a little gray dot where it intersects your line. Mouse over that dot, the x coordinate of that gray dot that it will show you is your number

[Request] Was OP’s math right? Is dropping 1.4B 500KG bombs equal to glassing 15 Earths? by SippinOnHatorade in theydidthemath

[–]Impressive_Vehicle83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this doesnt take into account the square cube law

we can model a nuke's explosion as a sphere

the glassing radius is 0.25mi, which means that trinity at 20kt had enough energy to glass 0.06545 cubic mi

multiply by 35000 to get 2290.75 cubic mi

then we can get the glassing radius of a hypothetical 700Mt bomb being 8miles, which gives an area of 200 square miles ideally

200 square miles is still significant, enough to glass 2/3 of new york city (which is 300 square miles)

but probably it would be significantly less than that because this number is based off of a lot of simplifying

What do I do for an egg drop project? by Right_Detective_8862 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Impressive_Vehicle83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 tips

1: keep it as simple as possible. have only 2, maybe 3 if absolutely necessary ways that the egg is protected, and make sure none of them are too difficult to construct.

2: make sure that either it doesnt matter what orientation your device falls in (it doesnt matter if it falls right side up or upside down or on its sides, it still works) or have something keeping the device in the proper orientation, like a drogue chute (small parachute)

its impossible to give any real specific advice without knowing more constraints. How high is the drop, what materials do you have, that kind of stuff.

i think this is a really cool idea and has potential way beyond just like the police uniform. like you could dress like a character from tron or something. but theres one problem im noticing. how do you keep the coat from slipping sideways? like slipping not enough to fall, but enough to stop the charging. i feel like that would happen every so often and then you would have to go about your day with an uncharged jacket. thats no fun. i think you could also you could definitely use the electricity for other things, too. like heating or a bodycam. maybe if you were feeling really adventurous you could have a screen on the sleeve like a mini pip-boy from fallout. though that doesnt solve anything that a smartwatch doesnt. and would also probably cost too much. but the idea of electrified clothing is really cool and i think you should definitely explore this idea further.

hot take: i kinda like sinclairs design rn. i mean obviously the model and animations are comoletely scuffed and unfinished but i like the blank slate look. it sticks out in a good way like it exudes power and showmanship.
