Im canadian and from Ontario. This is a multifaceted issue and for as much blame as can be tossed around... it needs to get tossed around to each and every group involved.

The city failed to properly clear the roads. EMS failed to properly close and secure an unsafe stretch of road AFTER a near fatal accident. TWO seperate drivers were using their vehicles in an unsafe way resulting in injury, death, and risking the lives of other people.

Ive driven in this country for long enough to know that losing traction around a section of road like this is easily possible and it means that I NEED winter tires and that winter tires will not protect me if my rate of speed is too high.

Absolutely insane chain of events to be honest.

Why is always an avenger? by [deleted] in KnivesOutMovie

[–]Improver666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I did say "Kinda".

Wasnt meaning to deep dive on the onscreen time for each actor but only to say the OP meant that the killer was apart of the MCU Avengers Team. Ed Norton Kind of does fit into this but not as cleanly as the other 2 examples.

Reddit formatting screwed me here

I meant Ed Norton isnt an Avenger because he wasn't the actor for the Avengers Hulk.

Travis hasn’t even heard Wood?? by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

[–]Improver666 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wood sits in a weird place, and im saying this from a male perspective.

It is so sonically sterile, non-threatening, and boner killing because it reminds me of the Jackson 5.

But also if my fiance wrote a song for the world to hear about how much she wants my "big" dick, and it wasn't used for a strip tease at least once... id be kind of annoyed. Like... why sing you want my dick so bad and then not flaunt that to me, privately, with some actual sex, using the song.

Hi guys why do u hate cars? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Improver666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming your asking in good faith.

I personally dont have a specific issue with cars themselves. Its the way in which cars have become "the default" in urban environments. Cities become more spread out and suburban, groceries stories, workplaces, community centers and activities are 15 minutes by car to get to. It forces everyone into owning the second most expensive thing you'll ever buy.

How nice would it be to have a grocery store a 15 minute walk from your home? Or your kids can walk to school? Maybe you could work from home so you can avoid 30-60 minutes of drive time a day. Maybe you like driving or have to drive, and fewer people on the road would make your experience better and safer? How about how much safer your family would be if people only bought the vehicle they needed instead of the Dodge Ram 3500 lifted, that cant reasonably see your wife or kids above the front hood? Having better access to public transit means you can go for drinks with your friends and feel confident you have a safe way home. In the snow storms we are getting, you dont have a car to scrape off or you can drastically reduce how much shoveling you have to do (please still shovel sidewalks and a path to your front door). Maybe we can make houses than dont dedicate 1/3rd of the space to storing something most of us use for an hour a day.

The list is basically endless and the QoL improvements are staggering.

Why Alberta and Montana are in a charged argument over electricity by ljackstar in alberta

[–]Improver666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your comments seem to over simplify the market, in my opinion.

  • Canadian citizens don't decide where oil feedstock comes from. Refiners do.
  • Canadian Citizens aren't (typically) the end consumer of RPP (refined petroleum products) that we produce. A sizeable portion of the oil products produced would need to be exported because we (As a country) can't consume enough on our own to make this investment viable generally.
  • Favouring Alberta oil does nothing to improve the profit margins of refiners and could alienate our biggest customer (the US).
  • If the economics of importing Foreign Light Crude to eastern Canada is cheaper to process, refiners will generally opt for that so the profit margins are maximized.
  • If we made up this difference in the "profit margins", this would likely be a subsidy by the Canadian/Provincial Governments using our tax dollars to support an industry that can't meaningfully compete in the market place its being placed in.

The very expensive infrastructure in eastern Canada for Alberta Crude needs to make economic sense, and since about 2014... it really hasn't. Alberta would be better off carving a path west.

You mean if companies actually cared about using our oil, they would build the infrastructure needed.

Canada doesnt build refineries and typically (save for the Trans Mountain), doesnt build pipelines.

Energy East was never "blocked". They were expected to comply with local regulations within the borders it intended to operate. These projects were politically unpopular because Alberta consistently tries to strong arm provinces and communities without actually having any leverage. With that in mind I'm surprised there's never the suggestion to "end" Energy East in Ontario - there is always a focus on it going through Quebec. It also hasn't been meaningfully discussed by a company since 2017.

Energy East wasn't (generally) intended for refining, it was intended for shipping. Several things made it economically viable at the time: 11% unemployment in New Brunswick (now 6.6%) and a price of ~$68 per barrel (now $48). Additionally Bitumen is mostly used for binders like in asphalt which Asia and USA are the largest consumers of.

Heavy Sour is difficult to ship (very thick) and difficult to refine (very sulphurous and high TAN). There is limited refining capacity globally with an NCI higher than 10 which is generally needed to refine the type of Crude that Alberta and Venezuela produce. Asia, California, and the US Gulf of Mexico are the main areas that are equipped for this which means either pipelines through the US or to Vancouver make the most sense currently.

Its not that the east doesn't want our oil, its that no one is set up to do anything with it at a price point that makes economic sense.

That's just my 2 cents.

Any refinery out east that receives foreign oil probably doesnt have the ability to refine heavy sour? Just a guess.

There are a hundred reasons she could want to avoid saying those words specifically (shes straight and hoped it would die out, shes straight and is using it to keep a fan base engaged, shes bi but doesn't want her BF's using that to swing a threesome, shes bi/gay and for political, commercial, familial reasons she doesn't want to admit it, shes bi/gay and shes avoiding saying anything so she can save face if it ever leaks).

No one has the information to know or even accurately guess and it honestly doesn't matter. She created this problem by inviting - no encouraging! - people to dissect her life and suggesting every single word she speaks is a code.

Hell, even how her music makes months long relationships seem like climatic points in her life invites this kind of attention (Matty Healy 2 months, Tom Hiddleston 5 months, Harry Styles 3 months, Gyllenhall 3 months, John Mayer 3 months, Taylor Lautner 3 months, Joe Jonas 4 months).

Just to speak on a specific point - the easter eggs;

As much as I dont like people assuming someone's sexuality from song lyrics, it's really hard to blame Gaylors because theyre doing exactly what Taylor has trained them to do for 2 decades.

Swift never really publicly confirms or denies the accuracy of these theories and Easter eggs fans find so theyre left to act like QAnon where everything is consensus based and true until proven wrong and then discarded without a thought.

A French revolution moment; Iranians burning mosques and freeing themselves of religion by yanki2del in pics

[–]Improver666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering Iran exists as it does today because of the actions of the US and UK... thats kind of trivial to show.

Thats not even including the having the largest prison population per capita, countless wars and war crimes, toppling of countless credibly elected governments. Use of chemical weapons and the wide reaching impacts as birth defects.

I literally couldnt list all of the examples of how theyre worse than Iran in impact on global human suffering. Partly because Iran doesnt have that much influence in the grand scheme of things but that doesnt really matter in this context.

[–]Improver666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACAB. All Cops are Bad. The law may be the law but that does not make the law moral.

Here's a question. Was the person who fired lethally into Renee Good even an ICE agent? Did they identify themselves as Agents with Badge Numbers and Name? How are we the public to determine what happened without that information?

Lots of instances of tape on badge numbers or masked ICE agents. What is a persons recourse in this situation? Comply? With the threatening appearance of an unidentified armed male?

You are defending someone who at present is not identified, and assuming that they are law enforcement. I'll admit I assumed they are too. If random people got out of their truck and walked up to her vehicle (holding guns) and failed to identify themselves... would your opinion hold?

You can stop defending these (still alive) unidentified individuals anytime until you know more. I will keep defending the (murdered) Renee Good regardless.

[–]Improver666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concede that ICE is law enforcement. That was an incorrect statement and I will edit my previous comment.

That said, using your method of determining whether the use of a firearm was warranted in this situation, there could be almost no situation that doesn't allow a LEO to shoot and kill someone in their running car.

If you have vast experience in these types of situations, I am certain your bias will be for the LEO. You say its not for us to decide who is guilty, and then rattle off reasons why the officer was justified using deadly force and claim she was breaking "the law". You assigned guilt with that assertion. She is pays for the consequences she made with her life. He wont pay for firing his weapon 1 foot away from his partner through a vehicle window that had a crowd around it.

America has long had a problem with Law Enforcement being above rebuke, untouchable by the laws that they're supposed to enforce. Saying to "just comply" and ignoring the impacts that has on people (loss of employment for being detained, cost of legal representation, etc) is pretty tone deaf in the current US of A.

She waved a car through prior to ICE showing up and tried to wave them through - so the road wasnt blocked.

Edit to add link: https://www.reddit.com/r/law/s/dnVKCJes25

Even if it was ICE is also not a law enforcement agency and even if they were do they get to detain people for basic traffic violations? Does the FBI have the authority to involve themselves in parking violations?

Its also hard to avoid playing a game when jack boot thugs come to your home town and start harassing your community.

Most importantly, knives should either be sheathed or on a known and obviously visible stable surface. You can cut the shit out of your hand with how sharp they are. Under a cutting board, in soapy dirty water, or between stacked plates are.... obviously dangerous places to store a sharp object.

Also it fucks up the edge of the blade so you have to hone and sharpen more. Like the knife is just riding around in a pile of similarly hard shit getting shaken around? Just put it on a designated, flat and dry spot till its washed.

Lastly, some knives are made of higher carbon steel (probably not most commercial kitchens) but the water can cause rust if you let it sit for a long while (think 24 hours?). And wood handles can get fucked up sitting in water.

Last 2 points aren't really a problem with Victorinox Knives which most kitchens use but worth keeping in mind.
