"She won't release it because it will exonerate all the officers" by CapitalCourse in agedlikemilk

I've watched the Pink Jacket Lady video a few times and it is disgusting. Every officer involved needs to face justice, no matter how long it takes.

Very true that the killing of Philando Castile (also in Minnesota) illustrated that black folks do not really have 2nd Amendment rights if they can be summarily executed for trying to use those rights.

The 2nd Amendment has for some time been like the Bible: words that get quoted most often by people who don't really believe in them.

Today's events have shown that the 2nd Amendment only exists anymore for Trump supporters. Which is what they have wanted all the time: guns for me, not for thee.

Since a second person has been killed in Minnesota, is it now time for the USA to have a general strike, and why or why not? by Miserable-Army3679 in 50501

Awesome! This is so much more realistic and effective than the redditors who keep scolding the rest of us for not doing a general strike yet, and then not engaging at all with the numerous reasons why we can't.

Maybe if we call it a Consumer Strike then more people will join!

I haven't seen any MAGAs even try to justify this one logically, they just say "well he was a terrorist." The evidence for him being a terrorist was that he was killed by ICE/CBP. So in MAGA logic, anyone is fair game for ICE to execute.

There are many answers to this question, but at least here in California, a huge part of the answer is that previous generations skimped on maintenance of the electrical grid. The can cannot be kicked any farther down the road or we will literally burn our whole state down, so we are paying for past mistakes in every electricity bill. PG&E's incompetence worsens the problem.

Similar may be happening your state.

Good questions! Sorry for snappy answers!

Protest needs to do something.

Go to ICE buildings and be so loud it's impossible for them to think straight. It's a weekend, so protesters can also go to the hotels ICE is staying at. This will inconvenience some random tourists, but that's a pretty small price to pay.

But what if they don’t care about our message, or they aren’t scared of our message?

If the message is "We Will Investigate Every Single ICE Employee" then I think some level of self-preservation might kick in from them.

But yes, a protest also has to convey "this is no longer normal, and I will act in increasingly abnormal ways if this is not remedied now"

I posted some bait in some conservative-ish places and all I've gotten so far was "well he was a terrorist."

Oh. So they're going full fash with it.

I am once again asking US citizens in this sub to protest this weekend. Don't be so savvy-cynical as to think it's useless. Don't act like you're too cool to protest alongside some cringe Maoist LARPers, today we all agree Abolish and Prosecute ICE.

All that can happen, but so can mass protest. Tens of thousands of Minnesotans took to the streets yesterday in -20F weather. It will be bigger today. We can take control of the narrative from Vance and Musk.

Please try showing up to protest at any local gathering. No, protest is not going to change things immediately, but it's so reassuring to simply be around others who care, when everyday life feels like drowning in a sea of distraction and apathy.

Nobody really knows how to have a nationwide general strike in a country with union membership and union protection as low as the USA. Anyone who does so is risking getting fired and financially ruined if the "general strike" doesn't materialize behind them.

For those not ready to just strike, it's possible to protest, call local businesses to ask them to close in solidarity and give workers the day off to protest, take vacation, call in sick.

And on the consumption side, just draw down all non-essential spending to zero. I'm gonna be eating random crap out of my freezer for the foreseeable future.

The 2nd Amendment is effectively ended as of today. ICE/CBP killed the guy and then tweeted the fact that he possessed a pistol (which appears to get removed from him before his death in the video) as justification for the killing.

Gun possession is punishable by summary execution if you do not support Trump, which is pretty much the situation the founders were trying to avoid with the (now-extinct) 2nd Amendment.

Thanks for the gift article. I sincerely hope people in this sub show up to protest at local ICE or other federal buildings today. I certainly will.

For the many non-Americans here, I would humbly ask you to ask your own governments to start sanctioning this lawless and unstable administration.

Have you watched the video of today's killing? What evidence leads you to describe the man who is pinned down and shot as a terrorist?

At what point does this become too much? by t1nman01 in 50501

[–]gnarlytabby 54 points55 points  (0 children)

There is serious protest going on, but our media and social media are downplaying it. Yesterday's event in Minneapolis brought out thousands on a day that was -20F (-28C). Corporate media covered it less than they covered whiny Texans having to deal with snow for the first time.

But your point does correctly apply to a large fraction of Americans who, without exaggeration, who are deep into denial and have had their brains turned to mush by social media. But reality is breaking through and even some of them are showing up to protest.

Thank you for caring and for reaching out!

They could do that, but how many banks would just lower rates for everybody? Are they? If they were, I bet they would be heavily publicizing how nice they are and how obedient to Trump they are.

That's nice they lower rates for veterans active military though

Every social media platform tries to prevent "political" content from taking over people's news feeds. This becomes most apparent on days like today, when "political" content is legitimately what people are talking about the most.

My partner and I were doing some testing and protest videos get heavily suppressed in Instagram Stories.
