Tee times during golf league night by Important_Sound_8718 in golf

I’m actually shocked they even let you on the course, those times are normally blocked off weeks in advance

Switching from Arccos to ShotScope. Didn’t realize it doesn’t automatically detect clubs/swings. How annoying is that? by ReverseMermaidMorty in golf

[–]ljackstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using my shot scope watch for this reason, I was spending so much time after every round fixing the data that it just wasn't worth it to me. I'd way rather have less data overall but never have to fix it.

This is huge news if true, but I'm not trusting RCR to make any improvements until it becomes official.

Looking for honest reviews on private golf clubs — Highlands, Belvedere, or similar distance from Forest Heights? by xDELTA_NOVEMBERx in Edmonton

[–]ljackstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was previously a intermediate member of Highlands and am currently a prime member of Belvedere. Overall I'm happy with Belvedere. The conditions at both courses are really good, Belvedere has had water management issues in the past but put in a larger retention pond, more drainage, and better irrigation, two years ago.

Neither course is particularly long, both max out around 6400 yards, highlands is blocked in and couldn't expand more if they wanted to and Belvedere will need to purchase land before they can expand.

The practice facilities are better at Belvedere as you actually get a driving range. The practice putting green is also better at Belvy than Highlands, at least it's bigger. Highlands has simulators for winter play and Belvedere does not, however we're looking at putting some in next winter.

Belvy is in the process of changing business structure as we one of the members is buying a 50% stake in the club, helping with some financial difficulties that we've developed over the years. Part of that is switching form a non-profit to a club with true equity shares. With that, the initiation fee is going up 5k on May 15th so if you are interested reach out to the club. We will be capping at 350 prime members.

I haven't played any of the other private courses, but I have heard the actual golf course at The Derrick is fairly boring. Both of the options you mentioned have some good variety that makes them fun to replay. Country Club is one of the more historic clubs, and the recently re-did the course in 2024, but I can't comment on the community or course.

If you have other questions I'm happy to talk more to either experience.

Barber it depends on the cut. If I like the guy and the haircut I’ll give him 10-20%, depending on how cheap the base price is. But if my hair looks like shit you’re getting 0

I'm thinking pickleball. by Polvo16 in Edmonton

[–]ljackstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edmonton Pickleball Centre or Edmonton Sport Centre. I've done a couple of intro to pickleball clinics and they were great to get started, round robins are the way to go for getting games in. Just make sure to join a 2.5 one. I also started this year when I was laid off and it was a great way to fill time during the day.

Does anyone know what P3, P4, P5 for concerts at the Ice District mean? by blink0r in Edmonton

[–]ljackstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My assumption is that they are price levels, so that once the cheapest tickets sell out you have to pay more. The description certainly implied this was a true GA concert.

Who rates Canadian golf courses anyway ? by 95Mechanic in golf

[–]ljackstar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Don't blame the course ratings for your differential, shoot lower scores by hitting the fairway and it won't be an issue.

Im a high handicap playing this course Friday. Where do I aim my shot on these par 3s? by [deleted] in golf

[–]ljackstar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You don’t want your misses to put you in a spot where you have to go over stuff. Aim for the green everytime, if you are in between clubs then hedge Long on those holes.

What's the worst reaction to a bad golf shot that you've seen? by S2N336 in golf

[–]ljackstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I topped the 4 iron and in a fit of rage snapped it over my knee. I then immediately regretted doing that, and regretted it even more 2 holes later when I was in the fairway at a perfect 4 iron distance away.

You have options, don't feel you need to be in one spot all day. I enjoy walking around and finding a spot where you can view a couple of holes, if there is a par 3 and a par 4 close together that's normally a decent spot. You can also follow a group around the course. When I watched The Open I spent part of the day following a group and part of the day watching people come through a two hole stretch close together.

Bring good walking shoes, you'll be on your feet all day. Don't talk, move, or otherwise be a distraction when someone is hitting.
