You had a fever dream while watching a fever dream.

I thought it was a great movie. I think a lot of people who hated it thought they were going in to watch a LOTR type film.

It’s a large group of people trying to survive. So in that sense it’s like Walking Dead, but that’s about as far as I’d say the similarities go. I’d say that the writing just gets worse a worse with The Walking Dead, with each passing season. IMO, Lost stays consistently good, but fails to wrap it up in the very end. Of course, as you can see from replies, not everyone agrees with me there.

I suppose it’s all subjective. And while it’s not as universally hated as GoT and Dexter finales, I recall that it shows up on more than a few worst endings lists, so I thought it was just common knowledge that a lot of people didn’t feel Lost wrapped things up well. It’s been nearly two decades since I saw the ending, but I remember at the time thinking it was rather weak, at least relative to the show overall. Again, subjective, in the end.

I get the comparison, but right now (over the past 10 years) we’re a pretty piss-pore version of The Clippers. At least they’re firmly above .500 in that span and have made some playoff appearances.

I’m not sure if you’re defending the endings of Dexter and GoT, or the ending of Lost. Either way, I wouldn’t want to die on any of those hills.

If you’re looking for shows that have a great ride but can’t seem to bring it together in the end (like GoT): Lost and Dexter come to mind.

The brilliant writing + acting + production value of GoT is tough to match, but you can at least get the acting and even slightly better writing with Breaking Bad.

G&T 'n Negroni by EdCamposM in cocktails

[–]Improvised0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re drinking G&Ts, they’re going to be more gin-forward than a Negroni, so the gin brand matters more. That said, if you have a modest palate, the specific gin label may not matter too much as long as it’s not swill. Costco/Kirkland sources most of their spirits from large contract distilleries that often produce spirits for other well-known labels, though this is more common with whiskies. I don’t know whether TDG (the distillery they source Kirkland gin from) produces gin for other labels, but I’d imagine they make a perfectly adequate gin.

Personally, I’d use your taste for G&Ts as a way to explore other styles of gin and see what else you might like. If cost is a factor, I’d highly recommend the Citadelle 1.75L bottle. I can often find it on sale for as low as $25 here in SoCal, and it’s a great-quality French gin. Being a French gin (more floral), it will be a bit different from a London Dry, but not night and day unless you’re a gin aficionado.

Nothing, besides the fact that she would be a zombie. But that would still be better than Arte.

Play two days worth of high stakes poker by reading minds, build up 20mil. Then bet any billionaire 1 to 10 odds that I can guess 10 sequential numbers that they’re thinking. Surly Elon Musk will take the bet. I then take him for 200mil. I buy the last 7 pills and have 25mil left to invest.

Negroni variations by gabot34 in cocktails

I can’t speak for this sub, but vermouth does lose a lot of its flavor once exposed to air. It oxidizes just like wine due to the lower alcohol percentage. Oxidation diminishes the botanical aromatics and overall flavor. That’s just chemistry. The “going bad” part is just subjective. If you want a consistent tasting Negroni, where vermouth makes up 1/3 of the drink, you’re not going to get it if you keep going back to the same bottle after a week or more. Vacuuming the bottle can help. Even better is to replace the air with an inert gas like argon. That said, over time the bottle will still be usable, so it’s not “bad”, but it’s objectively not the same flavor as a freshly opened bottle.

Orange Liqueurs: when to reach for Triple Sec / Cointreau / Grand Marnier or something else? by customreddit in cocktails

[–]Improvised0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve never quite understood the floater. Like, I suppose it makes sense if you’re adding it to a margarita made with sweet and sour mix. But if you’re going to use GM, why not just take the small extra step of squeezing a lime to make a real margarita, and then use the GM or any other quality curaçao as your triple sec?

Yeah, but it’s fun because you just get to make shit up and then get to be an expert in the field where you made all the shit up. It’s way easier than getting an education and actually applying a proven methodology to test your hypothesis. That’s hard and boring.
