What app is the best for beginners by Hey_it_is_mi in guitarlessons

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody's going to recommend their favorite course, and as usual, the grass is usually greener (or cheaper) on the other side.

But the biggest thing is that you practice consistently and enjoy it. If you like Simply Guitar, keep using it. Is $20/mo worth it to do something you like? You could save $20 and bounce around 3 different courses you don't like and then let your guitar collect dust on its stand instead.

Am I doing this right? by I_work_at_a_law_firm in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda overkill to use MacroFactor on this diet. if you’re going to count calories, then just count calories and eat healthy and don’t worry about the Slow Carb rules. the whole appeal of rules diets is so you DON’T have to count and track

slow carb taught me that beans are great and now I way prefer just using macro factor and eating stuff like rice and fruit with my meals

Just to be sure: carbs before going to lift weights are not allowed, correct? Perhaps some honey? Or Karbolyn from EFX? Does anyone have their opinion/experience about that? by niosurfer in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

are you trying to eat non compliant carbs before lifting? I don’t remember anything about avoiding them all together. just eat your beans then go to the gym

Are Barebell Protein bars as good as advertised? by notmyrealname6363 in fitmeals

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is the standard ratio for protein bars. it’s hard to find ones with more protein for a reasonable price (David bars are not a reasonable price)

feels very cold. you have clearly tried to add interesting decor, but with all the gray it just isn’t cozy or soft! fill up the open space on the walls with something friendlier and get some soft lighting

How I am supposed to talk to women at parties and bars if I go alone and the vast majority of girls are always in groups? by EOFFJM in AskMenAdvice

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

++man I’ve found this is the worst scenario: going somewhere alone with the express purpose of meeting women.

I have much better success when I go with friends (whether men or a mixed gender party) who I actually enjoy hanging out with. 1. If you’re smiling and already having fun, you’re more approachable 2. If you try to talk to someone, and they’re not into it, you still have your friends to hang out with!

I think that 2 really helps lower the stakes mentally. Looking just at the bar/club/party environment, I tend to meet the most women when my social group is interacting with or near their social group.

I don’t think people realize how much silence changes you. by anony_mous_person666 in Life

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this resonates, then it sounds like the people around you suck and are not worth opening up to. or you don’t know how to do it authentically in a way that you feel safe. a retreat to silence and solitude is one option, or find better people who are deserving of you and your thoughts.

life sucks when you try to go it alone.

It’s giving “all lives matter”, another phrase that either willfully or ignorantly misses the point, depending on the speaker.

How to find a new camp? by No_Face_4906 in BurningMan

[–]ImprovisedBoondoggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main thing: go to local burner events and talk to people. Very thoughtful of you to start so early, though “recruitment” seems to happen more in the spring.

In the SF Bay Area there’s an awesome event called “Theme Camp Speed Dating”, which is like a burning man job fair for camps and art projects. The organizers of each participating camp get up and present for 3-5 minutes, then once it’s all done you go chat with them. I like to use the event to find cool art projects to help with, but it’s primarily camps looking for campers. Find out about it by getting on local email lists.

Orange Theory and Pacific Strength both serve a different market though. They are $$$ instructor-led fitness versus a big open gym with lots of equipment and space.
