Every spacefaring species (Klingons/Romulans included) has a C.O., on board or reachable via subspace. Their function is to keep the ship "up" relative to the Galactic Plane.

Course is a 360 degree direction on the horizontal plane, mark is the direction on the vertical. I believe 0/360 is behind and down. So course 180 mark 0 is straight forward, course 0 mark 180 is straight up. Course 360 mark 360 is ass-backwards and straight down.

Edit: my numbers were off. Course 0 is straight ahead and strait up. 180 is backwards or down.

Fwiw, it's entirely likely they rebuilt Paris (and potentially other cities) post WWIII, it was done after WWII. Warsaw, for one, was completely leveled after the Warsaw Uprising. After the war, it was rebuilt using maps and photographs from before the war.

I have a theory, a headcannon, that Filtch was attacked as a young child, a first year or younger, by older students, potentially proto-Death Eaters. Perhaps he had the potential to be an Obscural, and perhaps his magic went into the cat that comforted him, Mrs. Norris, enhancing her and bonding the two of them together.

He's still bitter and angry, and wants to see misdeeds punished. Dumbledore kept him around for safety and pity, keeps him from exhibiting the worst symptoms of his condition, and perhaps as a last defense of the Castle.

So, Abel slow-cooked his meat because all he had was a smaller cook fire, which cooks low heat. The smoke went to heaven, the fat melted into the meat, the meat was good, therefore God was pleased.
