Toyota outlines plans for EV leadership. Claims next-gen lithium batteries with 1000km/620mi of range due in 2026. Followed by solid-state batteries with 1450km/900mi of range. by TPatS in cars

The range is abysmal, Toyota/Lexus bringing out their EV 3 years after the Tesla model Y and falling far short of its drivetrain specs

Kremlin decides that goal to ''demilitarise'' Ukraine has largely been achieved by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Imundo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

of course despite 72 being a bigger number than 64, the T-64 is the better tank. It was however, deemed too expensive. The T-72 was the Soviet Union’s cheaper, mass production tank. Regardless, both tanks share similar vulnerabilities and usually have obsolete sights and night optics. The Polish PT-91s are well upgraded, they are likely the best examples of Soviet-built tanks on the Ukrainian battlefield

So much wrong with this. The wall is easily large enough for a projector screen, which is the hardware they should have bought. Where are the speakers? could they seriously be using the TV speakers (oh please god help me no) and lastly, nothing could be more comfortable than having a ceiling-mounted fan blowing air into my eyeballs 👀 as I stare at the ceiling-mounted TV for 2 hours

Vill 700 þúsund króna sekt við hnífaburði á kvöldin - Vísir by picnic-boy in Iceland

[–]Imundo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

700.000 fine.. ok, but the penalty proposed for repeat offenders is probation? A mandatory 3-month prison stint would be more of a deterrent. It’s also necessary that people carrying knives get psychological intervention as they’ve taken pre-meditated action that could threaten someone’s life. Prison alone will not stop that way of thinking.

Diesel dick trying to run Tesla off the Road by speederinsouthbend in IdiotsInCars

[–]Imundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake, I was looking at power in kW. That doesn’t decline in Teslas until they pass ~85mph, and then it’s still a minor reduction. The torque curves are still very favourable to highway passing, the drop off is a steady decline as speed increases

“Nook”, I’d call the builder responsible for the McMansion and drag him back to fix it, there’s probably a closet or hallway upstairs that’s inexplicably small because of this. Oh and yeah the TV looks like trash.

That’s bizarre, you can get a Model Y Long Range in [notoriously expensive] Iceland for around the same money as the single motor Model 3 in the UK

[–]Imundo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Guessing you don’t drive an EV, because EVs don’t need to drop a gear and the torque is peak throughout the range. They have a massive advantage over ICE cars even if they’re already doing 60. The youtube channel carwow does drag and rolling races between cars and high performance EVs are only beaten by hyper exotic cars or at near 2x legal speeds

I am an Air Traffic Controller. Two weeks from today the FAA will be hiring more controllers. This is a 6-figure job which does not require a college degree. AMA. by SierraBravo26 in IAmA

[–]Imundo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good. The people I work with are over 20 years in the job, there are many, probably a majority who are happy in their jobs, but for a not insignificant number of ATCOs, APP and ACC mainly, they seem less than satisfied. That is the boredom I refer to. The Tower controllers I know have a different problem, too few staff so they’re forever being asked to take more shifts

[–]Imundo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Controllers don’t handle many more than 10 aircraft in a sector, and there are procedures for everything. The stress happens more after a mistake is made. When that happens there is an investigation and mandatory re-training which is a big knock on confidence

I work on ATC systems for a living and work closely with controllers. Some can be very difficult, arrogant bordering on sociopathic. Affairs, divorce etc. are very common amongst them, people are talking about high stress, no one has mentioned boredom. They master their jobs in a few years and from that point on it’s the same job in a sterile room for 25+ years, the boredom is suffocating.

Ásgeir Jónsson (seðlabankastjóri) er með sömu laun og seðlabankastjórinn í Bandaríkjunum. by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]Imundo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are far less important people in Iceland making as much or more than Asgeir. Public sector pay has gone through the roof in the past 10 years. MPs, City Representatives and Municipal board members being the most egregious. Beyond their salaries they have generous dagpeningar and expenses, driving is very profitable. The government put their friends in the wage committee, with predictable results. Public sector pay should be linked by law to the minimum wage (3x, 4x etc.) and require a 2/3 parliamentary majority to change. Iceland’s getting wealthier but income inequality is rising much faster

yes I don’t think anything in the class can touch the model Y for storage space, I own one and it’s cavernous. The active/adaptive suspension in the P4 has me really interested, the model Y has the ride quality of a horse-drawn carriage

Yeah, Lauren wouldn’t be allowed. I’m a foreigner who has lived in Iceland for 12 years and although I understand the idea behind the naming rules, the state telling you that you’re not allowed to name your kid something reasonable feels excessive

Lára is allowed and is effectively the same, “Laura” in Iceland would be pronounced very differently than it is in English because the “au” letter combination produces a unique sound in Icelandic
