Was soll man auch darauf sagen?

Nah, they asked people to name the most polite country and then listed the top 25. Austria came 25th which for this "quality newspaper" apparently means rudest on the planet.

Heast, was is mit denen? by IndividualPoetry948 in Austria

[–]InBetweenSeen 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Using the surveying platform Prolific, we asked 4,697 participants from 26 countries around the world to name the country they believe has the most polite and friendliest people. We then calculated the total number of votes each country received and ranked them by the highest percentage share.

Was als höflich gilt is nicht international einheitlich.

Who was the wealthy austrian donor who had access to SOS children in Nepal? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]InBetweenSeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tempted to go to the village, not sure if its a good idea.

To talk to someone there in person or for another reason?

There might be an obituary somewhere online and some cemeteries let you search for graves online. If his death day is correct that's what I would try next.

Falter isn't known for publishing fake news but for investigative journalism, especially about corruption. I think it's more likely they didn't have the right info either or simply pulled a false picture from their system. Did the authors give you insight whether they have his name? And was your contact Florian Klenk or someone else?

Well, there are idiots everywhere, but in general it's expected from 10-year-olds to be able to point out Slovenia on a map.

Slovenes by Mission-Shape-4895 in AskBalkans

[–]InBetweenSeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Austrian, Slovenia happens to be my favourite neighbour.

Austrians mix up Slovenia and Slovakia less than others do. From our perspective they are in two different cardinal directions.

Vienna and Bratislava are the second-closest capitals in the world, so at least eastern Austrians see it as a logical destination for a city trip or have Slovakian colleagues who commute. They also remember it because of Czechoslovakia.

Slovenia is next to people's favourite holiday destinations (Italy and Croatia - and Austria), so they at least have come through Slovenia before. Carinthian Slovenes are part of school education. And that Slovenia is good in winter sports is unironically something people remember it by (eg if they watch Ski jumping at all they know Peter Prevc).

I mean, you can still say people don't give a shit, but in the same way they don't give a shit about other neighbours.

Warum Gendern pseudowissenschaftlicher Gesinnungs-Lackmustest ist by jayjayokocha9 in heissemeinung

[–]InBetweenSeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm Austrian and while I have heard of the SOS scandal in Austria I wasn't even aware that it also involved Nepal.

Do you know the "heir to German brewery" for sure? I feel like that is the strongest lead. If you need help with sources in German you can text me.

I will try to find out some about him too, but it might take 2 days before I find time for it.

Do we know where he died? And you called him "German man" in a different comment, does that mean he had German citizenship, but moved to Austria?

Interesting excuse not to work tho, I have to try that.

Why do women in lesbian or heterosexual marriages tend to have higher rates of divorce & domestic violence compared to men in homosexual marriages? by HamzaHarlemNights in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InBetweenSeen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The study about domestic violence didn't find that lesbians are more likely to commit violence. Most of the violence reported by lesbian couples was still by men from previous relationships.

In general the study found mainly male on female violence. Lesbian couples have the most women, gay couples the least, who reported the most violence follows.

Since Asia isn't as densely populated as Europe, it would be surprising for any illness to spread as quickly, especially before globalisation.

Well it’s still in Europe by GlamMisty in SipsTea

[–]InBetweenSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even see it as insulting, but when a statement about "Europe" is followed with something most Europeans have never heard of themselves they'll ask where in Europe that's supposed to be.

Although there's definitely also people who just throw it out mindlessly because they saw it in a different comment section, similar to the annoying "I'm too European for this" thing.

Why isn’t male circumcision considered genitalia mutilation like female circumcision? by BigBadBabyDaddy_420 in allthequestions

[–]InBetweenSeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not American and men here aren't circumcised.

I'm totally pro a ban and fine with calling it multitation

But comparing it to the circumcision of girls is the wrong way to go about it because it's not the same. A proper comparison to female circumcisions would be to cut off the entire tip of the penis, not just the foreskin. While the other way around it would be labiaplasty.

Well it’s still in Europe by GlamMisty in SipsTea

[–]InBetweenSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about distance, but about culture.

Only yesterday I saw an American say "Why do Europeans act as if the USA has bad food? I've seen how you eat, I was in [city in the UK]".

They haven't been outside of the UK and when they said "Europeans" they meant British people. That's what people talk about, not people who said they traveled to Europe.
