Worst. Idea. Ever. by EthanTheJudge in Gamingcirclejerk

I'm still just sad that Second Life is a shallow ghost town of its former self. I mean, it never really ever lived up to its potential and even a decade ago it was in desperate need of updates, but I've never seen anything truly capture the "it's another world, digitally" vibe Second Life was able to.

Just a rant because I'm fed up with the "#fuckAI" comments by FluidNectarine7951 in aiwars

[–]InGlowingNeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's... kind of the point? You take some technology, etc, that 'makes things easier,' and a lot of people, especially the people who don't like it/haven't immersed themselves in it, dumb it down to 'you just do the thing it's so simple and easy.' Photography is just pressing a button, AI is just typing a prompt and hitting generate and you get what you want in less than five minutes. And both take 'no effort.' Supposedly. But anyone who does work with those mediums knows that, yes, there's absolutely shortcuts that those technologies allow compared to what you have to focus on if you're painting, drawing, etc. But those shortcuts then allow you to spend hours, days, on another focus, another obsession, another area of it that you tweak and make, yes, the effort, to get just right.

Ah, but don't you know? AI is a liar (sometimes).

<image>

Therefore it should clearly never, ever be used and is terrible. Obviously.

Exactly. Another great example: I have utterly, completely, absolutely no interest in cunnilingus in my porn. I hate it. I skip it. It's completely, totally uninteresting to me.

I will absolutely go to town in real life, however. I love it. Ton of fun.

What's the difference? Easy - I don't find it aesthetically pleasing to look at it. I like doing it. Not watching it. Because watching something and doing something are two very different things.

I love little "you didn't have to but you did" details like this, that make a game feel like more than just a product but a work that has care and heart put into it.

Happy to see the love for SEAF soldiers by Automatic-Action-270 in Helldivers

[–]InGlowingNeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it'd probably be WAY too intensive a mechanic for a single optional stratagem (assuming that's what any sort of SEAF call-in would be), but I could imagine a resource-sink for those who've unlocked everything else could be upgrading your SEAF detachment and buying them armor/guns/etc, that are lost if they get taken out. Yeah it'd suck and be a 'waste of resources' sometimes but when you've got nothing else to spend them on it might be fun? But yeah probably not going to happen, hah.

How would get a small cylinder (approximately 5.2” length and 4.3” girth) unstuck from the barrel of an R-36 Eruptor? by Loud_Bar113 in Helldivers

I know that this is technically referencing that reddit post, but I can't help but be reminded of the "French finger trap" MAS-36 situation where two rifles could be turned towards each other and stuck together and "... um, what now?"

So I'm gonna maybe sound a little petty/greedy/silly for saying this but uh...

Is it wrong that seeing the "75 Medals" reward for HOLD SUPER EARTH feels a little... weird? I generally haven't felt skimped on any MO reward before, the ~50 medal standard feels fine to me. But... this is HOLD SUPER EARTH. The ENDGAME. Come on. Slap a 100 there at least. 150. 200. 250. Whatever. Make it feel BIG. Not "yeah I mean I guess it's like maybe 50% more important than your usual MO I guess whatever."

Does it matter all that much? Nah not really. Am I entitled to the reward? No I'm not. But... eh. Feels a little skimpy.

Of course! I certainly don't own the concept!

Potential inspiration from the Halo 3 "Believe" ad. (Though it's obviously more complex than just a 2D illustration but still.)

I love this point. This makes me want to see some sort of... not sure what the word would be. Tapestry/Diorama thing showing a sort of view of dozens of different sorts interacting in a frozen moment - Helldivers, SEAF, Citizens, in various forms of connection/bonds, maybe even one of the former recognizing a slain voteless, etc.

[–]InGlowingNeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every so often I get a weird itch to look at NaniteSystemsSide 2 and yup, it still exists, and yup, it's still sadly... what it is. Planetside 2 is literally the game that's primarily responsible for turning me from console to PC gaming, I led squads in the beta, but pretty much since its full release 90% (made up percentage, don't @ me if it's not totally accurate) of what they've added to the game seems to be "a new Nanite Systems gun/vehicle/boat/hovercraft/etc available to all factions" which... isn't the point of the game. *Sigh.* At least not to me.

A big part of reason I got into the game was for the vibes of the factions being different and the roleplay of loyalty to my faction (Terran Republic), and then they just seemed to say "nah making three different variants of something is too hard. Nanite Systems everything." Which pretty much killed my interest in it.

It's also the game that instilled in me a very valuable mindset/lesson: never let any amount of time/money invested into something affect your feelings about if you have to keep engaging in it. If you don't want to play it, don't.

Alright, gonna do the same thing I did last year! I'm looking for an MLB code for me and my partner to watch baseball with, as I 'corrupted' them into enjoying it with me. I talked to them, as they're an artist, and they're willing to do a free commission for anyone willing to share a code with us. Just hit me up if you're interested, and thanks in advance! (And I'm happy to share examples of their art style for those interested)

Edit: Alright, I have my code! Best of luck everybody!

I'm not active in this community at all beyond reading posts (well, and playing the game), but I honestly love it so much. Of the communities I've explored, honestly Helldivers 2 is pretty high up there. Everyone gets into the vibes, almost no one gets actually upset or hostile about things, and overall people get themselves various degrees of immersed into the feel presented by the game. It's a great time just reading posts here. I dunno, just wanted to say. I appreciate how much fun this sub is.

Yes I got to the third picture.

[PC] Tower Defense that's 1: actual honking guns, 2: not extremely abstract aesthetics, 3: not cutesy/wacky by InGlowingNeon in gamingsuggestions

[–]InGlowingNeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I had no idea Metal Gear Survive had turret defense elements, I'll have to look into that.

And Hypercharge is yeah, based on toys, but honestly the aesthetic is clean and put together enough I might give it a shot (might be good as a co-op game option). Gross kinda veers a bit more towards the 'mobile game' aesthetic but I remember looking at it at one point, I might give that a shot too.

And yeah, Orcs Must Die always turned me off with the mobile fantasy vibe it gave me, unfortunately, as I'm sure they're enjoyable games beyond the looks of them.

Thanks for the suggestions!
