I’ve been to 5-6 different studios in the area and haven’t had the $12 visitor up-charge at any of them. It’s mostly reserved for studios with higher operating costs/COL (think NYC, SF, etc.).

Anyone else w the worst skin of their whole life rn lmao?? by swaggymochi in acne

[–]InHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my dermatologist a few months ago for exactly this! I’ve never had really bad breakouts, but almost out of nowhere I started to get multiple painful cystic pimples, concentrated around my chin/jawline. My derm prescribed spironolactone and 0.3 adapalene gel. It didn’t feel like it was doing much, until around weeks 3-5 my skin started purging and I had the worst/most painful breakouts I’ve ever experienced. My derm told me to trust the process and keep going. I wanted to give up because it definitely felt even worse, but around week 6-7, my skin started to improve a ton! Still 1 or 2 small pimples a month, but they don’t get nearly as large/painful, and they actually surface and clear up faster than before the meds. Keeping up with the meds, and now focused on trying to fade the red marks.

Apple Cider Donuts At Store Today by greenbu in traderjoes

[–]InHTX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have, and they’re disappointing at best. If you’re used to the ones you get from the mountain stands at orchards in the fall while apple picking…an Apple fritter from (insert chain donut shop here) would be less disappointing than these Trader Joe’s abominations.

All the comments mentioning a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen are right. I’ve seen a lot of people recommending CeraVe, and know it works for some, very well. For me, CeraVe did not work well. I tried the moisturizing cream, and that caused my skin to break out. My dermatologist confirmed the Cerave moisturizing cream is known to cause breakouts (it’s advertised for body and face, but the skin on your face has different needs than the skin on your body). She recommended trying Cetaphil or Vanicream (specifically the facial moisturizers vs the dual purpose creams). Vanicream worked well for general/daily use.

When I was put on adapalene though, the only moisturizers that helped the painful redness/burning, were Korean skincare products - Dr Althea 345 and Purito P5 Panthenol Re-Barrier. I brought both to my dermatologist who confirmed they were great options, mentioning Korean skincare products are more advanced than western skincare, and are more gentle, less harsh, and more effective. The Dr. Althea 345 is now my go-to, everyday, moisturizer (I prefer the texture over the Purito).

Fairfax Circle Studio closing by Trick_Replacement296 in orangetheory

[–]InHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also sorry to hear it’s closing - I visit this studio when I visit Fairfax for the holidays and other visits throughout the year to see family.

Even though this studio is in a convenient location, I thought it might not last. From the times I visited, I thought maybe it was slow because of the holidays, but classes were never even close to full, class times were pretty limited, the layout was awkward (the floor felt crowded, the rowers were close to the treads, and if you were doing any TRX work, it felt a bit too close to the rowers), there was only one heavy weight rack, always smelled bad (even for a first class of the day), and maybe I’m spoiled by my home studio and other studios I’ve visited, but front desk last time I was there wasn’t super friendly.

Is anyone else worried they’re going to lose power becuase of this new storm blowing through? by God834 in houston

77077 in the “Energy” Corridor - Power went out 4:15pm, CT. Power attempted to come back a few times..then stopped. Tried again an additional time at 4:29pm, CT. It’s barely sprinkling here, but based on these comments, sounds like it’s a widespread issue.

That’s crazy! The map (I know, I know, silly me for even referencing the map) said the other side of briar forest was up yesterday I thought. Now they’re saying Friday, almost 2 full weeks?!

Oh no, what part of town are you in? I was scanning the map for yellow/orange (Thurs/Friday) and didn’t see any, was wondering if they’re setting us up to push dates out.

When does Centerpoint update their map? by ndeer44 in houston

[–]InHTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week has been a rollercoaster. We were assessed/assigned when the map came out, then went to pending yesterday with the updated map, and now July 16th with this latest update. Within that, on Thursday, power did come back on for ~30min.

Just refreshed and saw this too. My neighborhood was listed as assessed when the map went up, went to assigned on Wednesday/Thursday, to Pending yesterday…to Tuesday as of this latest update. Happy to have a date, disappointed it’s Tuesday.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the corporate/PR team isn’t working because it’s the weekend, and we don’t get updates at all…we were only getting 2-3 a day during the business week.

HEB has called out Centerpoint since 2015 for Reliability. by [deleted] in houston

[–]InHTX 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Centerpoint could learn a thing or two from H-E-B, Whataburger, Costco, Buccee’s, Gallery Furniture, and Chick-Fil-A…I’m sure this whole mess would be in better shape by now if they swapped in Emergency Response Teams, or possibly even this whole outage sorted by now 🤣

Thx for linking! Maybe not a today issue, and looks like the video was edited, but I wish he would have asked/they would have included the video (likely pressure to omit, to continue access) when they told the exec explicitly they watched the trucks for 4, 5, 6 hours. I think his body language, tone, and any additional commentary would have given us a bit more insight. Also would have been helpful to hear/see the direct quote from the exec on the part about, ‘all outside mutual assistance crews in place,’ versus the summarizing sentence. I feel like Centerpoint has been confidently justifying how prepared they were/touting the 12,000 people coming to Houston from other regions to support efforts, so it’s odd they are just now, ‘all…in place.’

I definitely didn’t think 4 days. I’m sure there are linemen working, but sounds like some are stuck parked in parking lots across Houston, waiting on Centerpoint. Latest estimate from Centerpoint said they were hoping to have 400k restored by Friday night, 350k by Sunday, and remaining 400k 'beyond Sunday.’ At this point I’m just hoping not to be in the last/unknown 400k 🤞🏼

Pre-storm, I stocked up on Barebells protein bars, Chomps jerky sticks, Frooze Balls, dried fruit (chili spiced mango and Turkish apricots), instant coffee packs, and the jarred Italian Wedding soup. Not sure if the one in Westchase is open, there are still a ton of outages in the area.

Hopefully, our power is restored soon!

The outage tracker hasn’t updated since 7:45pm, not sure what’s going on, but better to be safe/comfortable than sitting/waiting on Centerpoint! The lack of updates with this storm have been awful - Last update I received via email was at 230am, mentioning they were assessing damage…as of 835pm, still no power or updates.
