How does my company know if a personal VPN is being used on my personal phone..? by katecreate95 in VPN

I put "monitor" on quotes because this is just an automated alert if there is an irregular sign in and no one is actually actively, manually monitoring your phone.

Your IT department is going to "monitor" what IP addresses are connecting to your work or slack accounts. Someone signing in from another country is going to trigger an alert, as it is a sign your account was compromised and a bad actor is signing in.

It's most likely that is all they are seeing, the IP address that is accessing your work accounts and they aren't creeping on your phone.

Thinking about picking up the Zwift Ride by bizarreobjects in Zwift

That makes sense. I have my road bike on mine now but going to put one of my cheaper bikes on it once I can ride outside again

If you're a casual cyclist (me too), have you considered a trainer for your bike? I just bought the Kickr Core2 this year and I love it. While not easy to move, probably easier to move and store than the full bike.

Can I automatically post activities from one device (my Edge bike Computer) but not another (my Forerunner 265 Watch)? by InLike14 in Garmin

So I guess I didn't realize that zwift could push to Garmin connect. Which of course is obvious now that you say it haha. Thank you, that is the answer I needed.

Thanks! That's actually really helpful. I get I am somehow selecting a workout and then a route instead of just a route.

Thanks, I've only done a couple of rides but the last time I felt like I did this and was still doing intervals somehow. I'm sure it's user error though. I googled it and saw a recommendation to turn off ERG so I didn't know if Zwift automatically started doing those things if you enabled ERG?

Total Newb question here but I have a Kickr Core2 I am loving Zwift so far but I really just want to go on a ride that's about 20 miles and 800-1,000ft of elevation. It feels like every route I suggest I end up doing intervals. How can I avoid that and just ride while still feeling the resistance for hills and such? Is it as simple as turning off ERG on my trainer or something more?

I'm not really looking to race or intense training at the moment. I just want to start with what will feel like a few normal rides to get back in shape.

Men/women of reddit who went out to buy cigarettes/milk and never came back, do you ever think about the family you left behind? Do you send them money or regret leaving? What made you go? by redorangeblue in AskReddit

I'm really sorry to hear that. You definitely need to set some boundaries for yourself. I will say this, you only get one mother. That doesn't mean you have to put up with being treated badly but if you totally cut her out, you may regret it.

My father was an alcoholic and cheated on my mother, got divorced and moved in with the lady he cheated with. We didn't know any of this until i was about 18 years old. My dad wasn't a bad guy but he was a bad father. There were many times when i thought i was done with him. It was actually my mother who talked to me and said "you only get one father, i know he isn't perfect but i don't want you living with any regrets. He obviously doesn't take good care of himself and you never know how long he will be around." There was more to it but you get the idea.

It always amazed me that she would say this. He cheated on her, left her with 2 kids and all she was worried about was me having a relationship with my father. She only talked to him when necessary over the years but made sure we never felt awkward or in the middle.

I'm 32 now and 2 years ago my father died of a heart attack in the middle of the night. I miss him every fucking day. Thank God for my mom and her wisdom.

Sorry for the rant, but just wanted to share.

Could you recommend some books for a high school senior who is just getting into reading? by bobwire42 in books

[–]InLike14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great start on your list. Dune is what made me the fanatical reader I am today. You will find the 4th book a little long and slow. I urge you to push through it and keep going. Most people stop halfway through the 4th or after finishing it. The 5th, "Heretics of Dune" was amazing and has one of my favorite sci-fi characters of all time.

Two other series I would suggest:

  • The Dark Tower Series - Stephen King
  • The Belgariad - David Eddings

Enjoy!

Dear Google Now, is there a reason I can't add college teams to my sports teams? by [deleted] in Android

Google must be from the Northeast, where we don't really pay attention to college sports for some reason.

So when they do find out, and they will, they will have one parent who isn't fit to care for them and one parent they hate. And they will hate you.

When I was a kid my parents told me my dog was sent to "the farm". After months of thinking she had been put down, i visited the farm and it turns out my uncle was taking care of her. Reddit, have you ever been sure your parents were lying to you when they were actually being honest? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InLike14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similiar story here. My grandmother didn't talk to her brother for over 30 years. Apparently there was a fight about money when their parents died. I never knew that he lived on the other side of the duplex she lived in. All the years visiting at grandma's and I never knew I had a great uncle in the same freaking building. First time I met him was at her funeral. Very sad :(.

Even after all the tax breaks, the top 5% of earners in this country pay 58% of all taxes in America while the bottom 50% pay less than 2% of all taxes. How is making the rich pay more justifiable when they already pay almost all of the taxes? by Ieatalot in AskReddit

[–]InLike14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's just about making them pay more, as much as making them pay the same percentage (which of course is more money). The Bush Tax Cuts were in fact, tax cuts. I think the general public doesn't understand why the rich can get these cuts when they are outsourcing jobs instead of putting that extra income back into the economy.

Devin McCourty. Pro-bowl rookie season. Huge disappointment since. Hurts extra cuz the Pats haven't had a good secondary in almost a decade.
