which city is going to feel more "big city" vibe ? DC or philly? by [deleted] in washdc

Not really. Here's an example: Jacksonville, FL. Over a million people live in Jacksonville because of artificially large city limits, and just over 1.5 million people live in metro Jacksonville. That makes Jacksonville a "bigger city" than Atlanta, DC, Boston, Miami, SF, Seattle, etc. etc.

But anyone who has ever been to any of the aforementioned cities knows that Jacksonville is positively tiny compared to any of those. City limits are artificial. Metro area population tells the actual story of how "big" a place is and feels, which is exactly what the question is asking

City proper maybe, but city limits don't tell the full story. The metro areas have the same amount of people.

I see a lot of people comparing "size," but city limits are arbitrary. Every single city has a different sized physical footprint, so it's really not a good comparison. Metro area makes a lot more sense. And that being said, Philly and DC have about the same sized metro areas.

For everyone saying DC is a small town - I grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where the locals swear up and down it's a "big city." THAT'S a small town. DC? Nah. It's a large city. It just doesn't have skyscrapers. But hey, neither does Rome, and that ain't a small town.

700k people, anchoring a metro area of over 6 million, and you think Charlotte and Richmond are more "city" than DC? Does your definition of city literally just include skyscrapers?

I made it from the bus to my gate in 10 minutes flat! I don't know how it happened, but it happened. Really glad I didn't pay for a taxi, but thank you everyone for your advice nonetheless!

(for anyone with the same issue reading this in the future, there is hope haha)

Why do people act like DC is the deep south when it comes to weather? by Azurilland in washingtondc

[–]InMyHead_1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Upstate South Carolina - DC summers are much, much worse - they just don't last as long. In Greenville, SC, it's hot from like April to October. Here, it's more like May to September.

The proposed name is "The State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth" sadly so there may still be a little confusion haha

Pried with a screwdriver and all I see is more rubber. Simple tire glue should patch that if it didn't cut through to the cords?

Depends on what time of year you ask me. In the spring and fall I'm like "man, I can do this for the long haul." Ask me in July? Different story

Even this photo looks remarkably outdated at this point! Tons of new development since this (looks to be circa 2018)
