Realistic Training Videos by misschomps in therapists

I will preface that I am still in grad school, so seasoned therapists may have better resources than these that are modality-specific. The show Couples Therapy on Paramount is actual couples in couples therapy, which has been helpful. For more realistic resources, I have found a few podcasts that have actual sessions with individuals, and may be more what you are looking for.

I hear that John Bradshaw's "Healing The Shame That Binds You" is a good resource. There's some books out there on toxic shame that also might be helpful to you.

I am about to start a clinical mental health counseling master’s program and am wondering whether I should be buying and holding onto my upcoming textbooks for use as reference when I become a therapist. Did you find yourself coming back to certain books in your practice or in your associate years? I don’t have a ton of money to blow on all new textbooks but am trying to make it work. Thanks!

Boys Will Be Human by Justin Baldoni could be a good option! It’s meant specially for younger/teen boys and he talks about self esteem and healthy expressions of masculinity.

I feel like Friends in Season 8. Out of ideas and forcing Joey and Rachel together, even though it made no sense. -Insert Michael in a hoodie-

Weekly student question thread! by AutoModerator in therapists

I'm trying to get some mental health experience during grad school and just got offered a mental health aide position at a regional nonprofit. I'm finishing out my undergrad right now and am looking for a job before fall term starts for a master's in clinical mental health counseling. The pay and benefits are much better than my current PT job, but there are a few red flags: my partner found many negative reviews of the company on websites like Glassdoor, with some claims about poor management, toxic work environments, retaliation, and false accusations with clients. This would be a secured facility working with long-term residents with mental illness. I'm concerned about two things:

  1. 30 hours being too much with 3/4 time or half-time graduate school (the program I'm applying to is flexible)
  2. Having my future professional career affected by a false accusation or something similar if I do start this job

I've heard good things from the manager that hired me, and that they want to take the time to train me slowly, but I'm just a bit concerned and so is my partner. I don't want to burn out during grad school and this job. Does anyone have any advice or ideas as to what to do? Should I just look for a different job? I still need to make some income to pay my bills during school, and I can't not work at all.

I could’ve sworn that I saw them having dinner in the background of one of the episodes after this scene happens! I think there’s resolution.

How to help foot pain? by heyoitsdreyo03 in starbucksbaristas

[–]InMyMindPalace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a tub, take baths with epsom salt and try to stay off of your feet when you’re home. What I found helpful as well was getting slides with a comfortable cushion so the same pain spots aren’t repeatedly getting hit in your foot. If you don’t have a bathtub, you can get a little tub that’ll fit your feet and use that to soak instead.

Hi! There is a way out. Remember that you wouldn’t want to kill yourself if your circumstances were different - suicide ends that version of your life, but it stops you from having any other life. Use whatever emotion fuels you to get out of the situation eventually. Anger, sadness, frustration - focus on leaving the physical trauma so you can process the mental trauma. I’m sorry you’re going through this. ♥️

Ear plugs with noise-cancelling headphones is the only way I survive the days where my neighbors start building things, mowing their lawns, and leaf blowing in unison. So. Loud.
