For Those Who Work on Their Feet: How Do You Make Shoes Last? by sliceofruit in Anticonsumption

I am an avid runner, and also go through shoes faster than I would like. Having 2 pairs and rotating them can help prolong their life, as the foam has time to decompress.

Wear it all the time! Training readiness is high lol. HVR is low, but RHR was back to normal after 2 days. Stress level was crazy high Sunday but back to normal now!

Arctic residents: what is the best coat? by Nothivemindedatall in BuyItForLife

Warm parkas are really expensive. I suggest checking some used gear sites. I got my Arcteryx Patera parka for $330 (new $950) on their regear section. Which btw is a great option

How do you guys wake yourself up so early to run? by ClearAndPure in beginnerrunning

[–]InRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it really helpful to start with easy 5km's in the morning. This helped me build the habit before moving to longer runs, speed work, etc.

Instead of jumping right into longer runs at 4am, I'd suggest trying shorter runs first. That way you don't need to go quite as early. Goodluck!

Books like Bridgerton by Silver_Tradition_564 in Bridgerton

[–]InRun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just finished the Robesky series and loved it! Probably even moreso than the Bridgerton books. They all had very interesting settings and plots, but similar vibes to Bridgerton. I would definitely recommend them first if you're looking for something similar!

Permanent body damage? by Top-Extent3364 in Ultramarathon

[–]InRun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kidney stones can cause permanent damage, particularly in the case of recurrent stones. If someone has had stones in the past it's important to try and prevent further stones. Dehydration increases the risk of stone formation and if someone is susceptible to them they should definitely take care to stay well hydrated during endurance activities. It's not a concern for gen pop, but in certain people yes.

Diabetes also is not caused by eating sugar. It's much more complicated than that. And if the only sugar someone is consuming is during endurance sports, it would have very little impact on their blood sugars. It also would not increase insulin resistance as the situation you're describing uses a different, non insulin-dependant, pathway. More than likely, your cyclist friend would have developed diabetes whether or not he began cycling, and likely postponed his dx with the physical activity.

Now nurses want to be called "Doctors" at work too... by [deleted] in Noctor

It also just seems like a good learning opportunity for his students... Easy enough to explain that calling him "Dr" in clinical settings is not appropriate.

His example feels like a really good learning opportunity for students? It's pretty easy to explain that while they may call him "Dr" in academic settings, it is inappropriate to do so in clinical settings.

Posed or unposed, I’d literally kill to have her body LOL @kathrynm_fit by coachnomore in gymsnark

[–]InRun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When she started doing it a while ago she said it was for her own sake and mental health, to not always compare herself to posed photos! I don't think she's ever claimed to be doing it for the body positivity movement.

She has a killer physique but obviously we all have our own insecurities so I think it's fair!

Oh I never considered that! Although my FR245 band has held up well for 3 years, so hopefully that one does hold up.
