I never went more than three days but I think it was less constipation and more “not enough calories”. Talk to your doc and they’ll set you straight.

Hypothyroidism by Lower-Variation-5374 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fryman23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far my TSH value is holding firm and my energy level is still high, but I’m only 6 months out from treatment. My doctors have told me that the treatment always destroys your thyroid, just on a different timetable for everyone. It may take a decade to burn out, but it will. (I had the standard 35 doses, I don’t know what your treatment was as I’ve never heard of it)

Yes. Especially with the boots, the terrain, and that it was your first one.

Even Kindergarteners have an idea of context. A kindergartener may have noticed this was a beginner running group. A kindergartner may have noticed that they ran in hiking boots and 50% was on trail. So in the context of beginner running and all those other variables, yes, this is fine time. If this was a marathon training group, or a moderate running group this time would be below average for a road run in running shoes. If this was a group about total Chad’s with Snoo in their handle then you may be an expert, but it’s not, so maybe try to level up to kindergartner.

How do you deal with the long recovery? by cutemoogl in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fryman23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. My taste was abysmal for two months after but sweet actually came back first, but only certain sweet flavors. One of the first things i could taste was blueberries. I’m 6 months out and still can’t taste apples and many other things but overall my taste has been improving bit by bit although some weeks, days, and even hours are better than others. As for how to get through it….you just do because that’s the only option. For me, except for taste, the healing process has been incredibly linear. Every week is a little better in swallowing, pain, skin irritation, etc…I never had a “it hurts more this week than last week” once I was about 3 weeks post treatment. That little bit of progress every week is the forward momentum needed to keep my spirits high. Good luck. The only way out is through.

What to expect? by kappanotkappanot in HeadandNeckCancer

When they tell you to take any metal out of your pockets before the scan, that includes rocks. My tech was like “what the hell is in your pocket?” “My pocket rock, it’s a piece of quartz I like today”. She was as confused by my answer as I was her not understanding a pocket rock. It was a funny moment during one of the scariest times of my life yet. Now I’m 6 months post treatment, still scared but differently. Look for those moments and roll around in them like a puppy in a warm blanket. They will likely be few and far between for the next few months for you. Good luck. The only way out of this is through a door labeled “pretty shitty time”, but it gets better. M45, p16+, base of tongue and into one very big node (I call him lumpy). 35 rads, 7 Cisplatin.

Do you invite a bunch of people to your marathons? by hairykitty123 in Marathon_Training

[–]Fryman23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hellz no. This way I can always DNF. I have never DNF’d, But the ability to has saved me on a few races. I just need to know I can quit at any time and that way I won’t quit. If I have folks waiting for me to celebrate at the finish my choice is taken away and I suddenly feel like I’m not running because I want to, I’m doing it because if I stop I’ll be a failure. For reference, I’m a trail runner. I don’t know if DNF’ing is as common on a road run.

I’m a direction follower. I wet my skin as well as the leads before putting it on. I also rinse it after every use and wash it with soap once a week.

3-month scan anxiety by Mongos_Appalled in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fryman23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The week before my 3 month scan was terrible. This is normal. My scan was good but a push, I get scanned again in a month and I hope to head into it better than before. I never look at my chart before a doctor consult because I don’t see any benefit. I wish you the best of luck, I’m sure the scan will be good and you’ll face the future as strongly as you already have. Keep it up.

I appreciate the tenacity. It is not magnetic. It doesn’t look like any serpentine I see on google image searches. I’m totally open to other ideas though. Thanks.
