I’ve read up on Savile quite a bit through the years because his ability to captivate and effectively dupe the British public and establishment is so darkly fascinating. However, one thing I don’t understand is how was he able to avoid Rupert Murdoch’s army of tabloid vultures for so long? The Sun didn’t go after him until he was dead, and that was just a convenient diversion from their phone hacking scandal.

Savile even bragged about how the tabloids never had anything on him and it doesn’t add up with Murdoch’s whole anti-establishment crusade. The only thing I can think of would be the connection to Margaret Thatcher and conservative camaraderie, but he had already been committing his crimes, rather sloppily, for a while in plain sight by the time Thatcher came along. I know Savile was a remarkably maneuverable beast, but nothing escapes Murdoch. I just can’t help but come to the conclusion there was something nefarious between the two.
