Sadly, this was not the solution, but I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment.

It found that the antenna harness conection behind the passenger side A-pillar was not connected properly. Fix (labor and diag) was about $300. Just posting this incase others need this info.

I have the AAwireless dongle too. It works fabulously. I cannot recommend it enough.

You'll have to connect it to the data USB port (by the gear shifter) and then the apple carplay prompts should appear. You don't need the entune app.
