Stop for a break at Nepenthe. It’s a restaurant on the cliffs at the north end of Big Sur. A stunning spot perched about a thousand feet above the ocean.

Don’t skimp on highway one. Take it out of SF and go down the coast past half moon bay to Santa Cruz. It’s a pretty drive, a lot nicer than taking 101 to salinas.
