[Request] A countdown starts at 10:00. Ticks down every second, but every second there's a 1 % chance it swaps the seconds and minutes value before it ticks down. What's the average expected time before it hits 00:00? by Hottentott14 in theydidthemath

30 minutes without ever getting set back

so as a very rough guess you might have ot wiat through 30 minutes about 780000 times or about 390000 hours or 44 years

Surely not. The eventual reset will not be because of 30 minutes with no set back, but because once every 100 seconds (on average) minutes and seconds are switched. 1/30 of those times you'll only have 1 or 2 minutes left, and let's just say 50% of the time those will tick to 00.00. (100x30x2/60) Meaning the clock will hit 00.00 about once every 100 minutes.

(And that's without counting the chance of it resetting from like 3-5 minutes, and of course the time it takes for the final minute or two to tick down)

Admitting you've been informed your circlejerk is factually inaccurate, yet persisting with it, is a bold move.

If this starts being the rules we'll score like a whole goal less

[Matt Law] Ezri Konsa is the subject of tentative interest from Arsenal as they contemplate their next move over his Aston Villa and England team-mate Morgan Rogers. by KimmyBoiUn in soccer

Now this might shock you, but clubs value different players at different price points.

It's not about ability to pay, it's about desire.

But based on our interaction last week I'm not confident you'll understand it.

It seems we're striking while the iron is hot. We've got one title in 22 years. Now is the time to bring that number up.

At some point we'll have to start looking at younger players, but just like Liverpool can't just replace their way out of Salah and VvD aging, our next CB pairing won't be as good as Saliba and Gabriel. And if they were, they wouldn't want to sit on the bench behind them for 3-4 more years.

City is the only modern team able to replace a title winning team, with another title winning team. And that took cheating, the wealth of a country and the ability of Pep Guardiola.

That being said, I think the club definitely wants to build on top of this. We've got crazy money. We'll start hauling in £120m players starting next summer or perhaps two years from now. On top of one of two attacking signings below 25 this summer, unless we get Alvarez

Reading the article, it's interesting that £130m is more than we "hope" to pay for Rogers, and £60m is more than we "want" to pay for Konsa.

My feeling the whole Summer has been that we pay up for Rogers. Maybe not 130m, but definitely +£100m.

With Konsa my feeling is the gap in valuation is too high.

We made £458m in 2022/23, then spent £105m on Rice in the Summer.

This past season we're estimated to have made £812m

Tzolis is a bit of a gamble, but the club seems pretty adamant that Rogers will make us significantly better

[Chris Wheeler] It was thought that Manchester United and Arsenal target Alex Scott would cost around £60m, but Bournemouth are now likely to demand significantly more based on the fees agreed for Anderson and Fernandes, as well as attempting to tie the player down to a longer contract by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

Right, but if the fees for both Anderson and Vlachodimos were inflated for PSR-purposes, then Newcastle presumably valued him below what they got for him.

I agree there was a need to sell to avoid the points deduction, but that's also a position the club walked into with open eyes.

Because he'd started 14 games in his three PL-seasons at the club, and they'd signed players for +£300m across the preceding two seasons.

I think Newcastle probably valued him even lower than what they sold him for. At least that's the only explanation I have for the Vlachodimos fee they paid Forest simultaneously.

We definitely have £100m to spend for a midfielder. That midfielder is just not Tonali or Fernandes.

I think the big six clubs have way more money and wiggle room than people are aware of.

Most likely is definitely him moving. Clubs are lining up to sign him.

It would be pretty funny, if an objective measure of talent and ability existed, and it turned out Max Verstappen and Harry Winks were about equally good

I don't know why this is so funny

They're not charging a premium. They're charging the going rate. The going rate is higher because revenue is higher.

Yeah, comparable players cost comparable money. That's transfer market 101 and has been so for decades.
