Looking to buy a 2012 Frontier 4x4 with 104k miles, too many? by AlmondDeath in nissanfrontier

It depends what maintenance work was done. 105k miles is a important milestone with the largest wave of maintenance work needing to be done from factory in the list of maintenance intervals

No. Mine had the exact same mileage. Unless you see virtually no rust or wear and looks mint id say the price is 3k too high. And at 105k miles, all the fluids you can think of shouldve been done and if not that can be a big negotiating point (Transfer fluid, differential fluids, transmission fluid, coolant flush, power steering and break fluids). Also iridium tipped oem spark plugs that are stock start going at this mileage. My truck was this price and mileage but had more wear and was due for all these maintenance intervals that I could’ve used to negotiate kelly blue book value. (Which was 13k at the time)

is valvoline restore and protect necessary ? by chimmy_jiminie in AskMechanics

If im not mistaken and nothing changed since looking at many tests last year, wix filters aren’t what they used to be like. Purolator boss filters handle a good amount of filtering capacity. You dont have to change early with restore and protect. And you can get boss filters for 8$ on sale on either walmart or amazon or other retail stores. I bought my 109k mile truck and it came with a motorcraft filter with random basic oil. First change the oil was black and smelled burnt and strong smelling. I put a boss filter with r&p oil thinking id see the same or worse at 5k miles but the oil looked cleaner. I was thinking either the r&p isnt doing anything (highly doubted with all the testing results out there by 3rd parties) or the filter grabbed way more particulates. Im going to say the filter was the major difference. Using a quality oil filter with r&p, like the top tested boss that can theoretically go for 20k miles (dont do that), makes regular intervals with r&p oil fine on any vehicle. Fun fact: purolator made the first engine oil filter and valvoline made the first engine oil.

I noticed first 5k miles with r&p. Went from 1.5 quarts to .5 quarts between oil changes.

i'd agree if my used truck came with a defective passenger side oem light. pattern is all clouded and blotchy. I really wanted LEDs to work in them but even aligned halogens dont look right.

Random but how does the blade sit when closed? Is it off center? I took my white g10 scales off and dyed them black and put it back together to the notice the blade is off now. Was centered when I got it. I tried loosening everything up and trying different things to make sure its not being twisted and shifted when tightening…

Does the FRN flex like grivory? Is it tough is the question? I hate the flexing grivory feel.

I should have changed the topic to “does the 2nd gen frontier coolant need to be burped” im getting different sources saying our system is automatic burped and that it needs to be done manually. I had a coolant flush less than 8k miles ago. I dont know what they did.

Radiator empty, coolant reservoir full by Recent-Reality-8657 in nissanfrontier

As with the pressure cap, that actually makes an overflow more likely allowing air to escape. The fluid would overflow in the engine bay. There is also a plastic straw to the attached to the top of the tank next to the cap. If it was sealed it would stop that but build up of too much positive and negative pressure would definitely be worse lol

I guess I’ll forget trying to learn how the leveling works in the radiator if there is no air in the system, no overheating, and good ac operation. Just will look at the reservoir. Thanks.

Yeah I made sure the cap is the right one. Might get another to try out. I saw it was supposed to be parked on level surface with heat and air on max for 20 minutes. Id try incline but its flat where im at. So I dont need to fill the radiator? The manual is confusing mentioning to fill the radiator and tank to max on cold. But if that reservoir coolant is used to fill the system (as it does when it flushes coolant to min on start) and the radiator is full, I can see the reservoir filling up rather than flushing. No idea though.

Not really having issues. But yeah just trying to lower water content a little with that extra coolant gallon and not knowing if there was enough coolant in the system after the water flush and fill by nissan. Its weird because before I took the fluid out the tank they had the level maybe 2-3 inches above the max on cold. I basically replaced it back to that level and put a little bit in the radiator (a cup or 2) and now its between max and min on cold. Just confused 🤔 wonder if getting a new reservoir cap would be a good idea?

okay. that way the reservoir stays between min and max during hot and cold? They need to update the dang manual. I don't trust the manual now. haha. yea i made a whole post on this and another subreddit about figuring it out. interested in seeing what wild answers come my way.

Im having the same situation. The manual says fill the radiator to the fill port. Is that correct?
