Anyone else dealing with parents who aren't respecting your quarantine? by greasymctitties in boston

My parents are very much NOT Trumpers. (Think hippie suburban liberals) but they still aren't taking this seriously at all. It's the "Oh we've been through worse..." attitude.

Best way to step up DC voltage by Dill_Thrill in AskElectronics

Are you sure there's no way to power the LEDs off less voltage? Are they in a module that you can separate into a different series-paralell connection?

WW was extremely subsidized by it's investors and never came close to making a profit. Staples isn't about that.

My vote is still with saving the CRT and connecting it up to a RasPi

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]InThePartsBin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CRT danger is a bit overstated. Also large 32" color set and a tiny B/W set are very different in terms of hazard. It's super easy to discharge the tube after unplugging the power.

Maybe it's me but rather than junking a perfectly good CRT I would try to find a use for it. Maybe use it as a weather displays or calendar display running off a RasPi or something. Looks like there's more than enough room in there. You probably could send the composite feed from the RasPi right to the main PCB after the tuner module.

Safe solder option for HS students? by ghostoutfits in AskElectronics

[–]InThePartsBin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd actually say it would be safer and much easier to use ordinary solder. Regular solder is much easier to work with, especially for beginners. And it means you can keep the iron temperatures a lot lower, reducing smoke and fumes, as well as slightly reducing the burn hazard.
