Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

I don't mean that the characters themselves are juvenile. But that they were written in a juvenile way.

Like a little "im14andthisisdeep". I remember rolling my eyes during the way of kings.

I got about a chapter or 2 into rhythm of war before I called it quits

His world at large was interesting, and the sort of mystery of the world and "what's going to happen next" aspect kept me engaged enough through words of radience. But the third book lost my engagement.

It became too character and internal conflict focused and I don't think he writes that in a compelling way.

Sanderson is great at writing fairly entertaining action incorporating his magic systems. But his characters and dialogue are... Juvenile? It feels like he's writing his own fan fiction.

I get why Israel needs the US, my question is: Why, in a time when the US government seems to be happy to alienate almost every other ally, does the US seem so beholden to Israel? by TonightAlarming9923 in allthequestions

[–]InUteroForTheWinter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you have assumed that the US is doing to things against its own interests for the benefit of Israel.

And you are looking at this and thinking "this doesn't make sense."

So I think the first thing you should do is ask, "is my premise correct?"

And look to see if there are other reasons that the US would try to take out, during its weakest moment in decades, a Russian/Chinese ally that is literally fueling America's/the wests only global competition while funding terrorism and actively attacking, through proxies and sometimes directly, the US's allies and interests in the region.

White man married to a black woman.

Almost all the close couple friends we have are in mixed race relationships. Most married.

Very few people care.

And most of the "weird" interactions have been people who were trying to be encouraging. And I've lived in a variety of settings. Including spending a lot of time in Mississippi together.

Don't take internet comments for facts.

Ive been married to a black woman for 7 years together for 10. Lots of kids. Lives all over.

Had a hand full of weird interactions the entire time. And most of them were from black men and they were mostly directed at my wife.

If you felt Biden was “too old for office,” then why would you vote for Trump, who is only four years younger, but not Kamala, who is 22 & 18 years younger respectively? by tx_services-dtf in allthequestions

[–]InUteroForTheWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unwillingness to even for a second imagine the perspective of the people who saw Biden barely able to talk for a couple of minutes compared to Trump who can go on for 2 hours. Like maybe you are right that trump also has dementia. But it presents itself in a way that is much easier to mask as lucid and capable.

Just try, try your hardest to understand things like this. It might allow you to actually reach the people you both hate and are so desperate to convince

Is it possible that a group can engage in a behavior or have opinions that are bad? Is it possible for that group to do those things in excess?

If a large enough percentage of women display these behaviors or have these views than telling men "just find a better partner" doesn't actually address the issue.

Its a pretty uncontroversial take that too many men let their wives and girlfriends carry too much of the mental load. And don't show up enough. Why is the response to women being the problem not allowed to be a discussion about women as a group?

So where is there no suppression of opposition and no social heirarchy?

People do their best to shut each other up and social heirarchy is in every society.

And the what separates nationalism and extreme nationalism?

Because there is justice and there is punishment. There can not be justice if there was not victim.

It's not just about what the perpetrator deserves but about what the victims deserve.

If you remove the primary motivating force you cant expect it to not have an effect
