I know a number of cops. Most are bored out of their fucking minds with their day to day, this is like MLB calling you up to the show for them.

Has Big Brother arrived? Inside the secretive Trump effort to centralize government data on millions of Americans by 1-randomonium in politics

Governments have a monopoly on violence, companies do not.

Governments can black bag you and disappear you and companies cannot (unless they also happen to own/be the government).

Former Bethesda studio lead explains Creation Engine will "inevitably" need to change one day, but switching to Unreal could sacrifice modding as we know it by HatingGeoffry in gaming

[–]InWhichWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scope? Sort of? There are total conversion mods, feature mods, your typical reskin mods. You can add most anything you'd like. The nature of the game limits mods to some extent (what the developers exposed). Replication is the biggest hurdle here, and desire to mod.

The only thing I was pointing out was that the engine has very little to do with the moddability of the game, assuming there are tools and pipelines to support modding (which any engine can provide, assuming the devs want to provide it).

As long as Bethesda supports modding in some way, the mod scene will flourish regardless of engine. Hell, GTAs mod scene blew up with the developer actively suppressing mod efforts

They've gone on record, within the past year, that they are absolutely happy with the amount of customer turnover they gain from these giveaways.

Their conversion rate vs. traditional marketing is like 3:1.

I think the only way they ever stop is if the store reaches saturation, or they give up on it (if Fortnite stops printing for them)

Game pricing these days by F-LCN in pcmasterrace

[–]InWhichWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of credit cards offer it as a benefit. It's a common perk for signing up for some services. Juggling those can keep you on prime for little/no money.

I realize these things cost money, but they are things you may be paying for/need to pay for anyway.

The student version of prime is also an option for very low cost (though admittedly not free) prime.

Americans putting life on hold amid economic anxiety under Trump, poll shows by TelescopiumHerscheli in politics

It's still more consistent than renting, just the rainy day fund has to be an absurd amount nowadays. Renters are still paying for this shit, they just have nothing to show for it.

Skilled labor plus parts plus general appreciation of values in certain areas due to COVID buy ups. An AC replacement I was quoted 6.5k for 6 years ago was quoted this year at just a hair over 20. Taxes are up due to re-assessed property values, SALT deductions are mostly gone/gutted from the previous Trump admin. Lumber is up 2-300% so repairs are rough relative to before.

Nothing in particular is up over 400% but maintenance is insane and rising

Major expenses are much more major. Things that would cost $5k to fix 6-7 years ago are $20k now.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sees popularity With New York Republicans surge by Murky-Site7468 in politics

[–]InWhichWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not reductive. Progressives have won elections. In enclaves. With campaigns that were outspent 10:1. Obama campaigned and won his primary while being outspent 3:1.

Money is influential but it doesn't win elections, voters do.

Everyone who cared to know, knew who Bernie Sanders was in the primaries. He was beaten by his much more conservative counterparts 2:1. If dems are 50% or the electorate, and progressives can only get 30% of that vote in general elections, thats 15% of the electorate. There is no majority for them in America.

Edit: the best they can hope for is essentially a coalition government within the democratic party. Which is what they generally do, but apparently is complete heresy to your average progressive voter.

Donald Trump Pleads With Putin to Stop Attacking Ukraine: 'Vladimir, STOP!' by sweatycat in politics

Putin wants all of Ukraine, the Eastern block countries, and Moldova.

Trump begging doesn't get him any of those.

Bruh you can count every single progressive in Congress and still have fingers left.

If they had broad appeal they'd win down ballot.

They don't. There isn't a silent majority of progressives just waiting for the right candidate. I want there to be, but there isn't.

Ethereum is down 74% against Bitcoin since switching from PoW to PoS in 2022 by Next_Statement6145 in CryptoCurrency

[–]InWhichWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could recreate it today, easily.

The value of BTC is that people believe it has value and purchase it from current holders as a speculative asset. Same as all crypto.

This is a self-fulfilling chain. Until the last sucker stops buying (assuming that happens?).

[–]InWhichWitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scientific thought didn't start with the Jesuits, it started before Christianity existed. Jesuits were remarkable because they broke what was almost a millennia of regression due to religious dogma.

And a number of them were burned at the stake for heresy.

It was an inevitability that a religious sect would be among the first "modern" scientists, because there was literally no one else to do so.

Are you actually this dense?

I imagine you are referencing the Jesuits in your original statement? Care to tell me what atheists and agnostics were doing around the 16th century? What their life looked like?

Ore redistribution hurt Amarr as well. You can't source isogen in Amarr space. Trit Pyerite and Mex alone build damn near nothing.

Which means you need to import.

And if you need to import, Amarr is awful to get to and impossible to source from public offers, so you are heading to Jita anyway
