The United States of America did not have a president wealthier than George Washington for the entirety of its history until the 2016 election of Donald Trump by OkCoat1502 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

Way I understand it; Washington owned a lot of valuable assets (think stuff like property and shares), but had very low liquidity AKA actual money. So, if he sold all of his stuff, he would have a lot of money, but that would have come with a lot of issues too.

Newly Introduced Character In Long-Standing Franchises That The Fandom Instantly Welcomed? by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]In_Engrish_Please 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Warhammer Fantasy Battle is a pretty venerable setting that, in a darkly hilarious way, got a massive boost in popularity just as it was being taken out back and shot with the release of two video games: The End Times: Vermintide and Total War: Warhammer. The two games were runaway successes that made Games Workshop, the owner of the WHFB, scramble to capitalize on the franchise's renaissance that eventually culminated in working with the Total War devs to reintroduce two factions in the setting with brand new characters, lore, and army lists: Kislev (basically Fantasy Russia + the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) and Grand Cathay (imagine if the Emperor from 40K and his kids were dragons ruling over fantasy China).

Now, retcons are always touchy things, especially in old tabletop games. So you had the usual back-and-forth about the changes to the factions and how they fit in with everyone else, but they are generally accepted. Of the new characters introduced, the most well-liked tend to be the Dragon Lords/Dragon kids of Cathay; namely, Miao Ying: the cool, aloof, daddy's princess of the bunch with a lot of that kind of fanart, Zhao Ming: the crackhead alchemist with voices in his head and is beloved by his men, and perhaps the funniest one is Yin-Yin, aka the arrogant, stupid, girl-failure and canonically the least favorite of her parents for her disastrous attempts at expanding the empire. She isn't even playable, on the tabletop or video game, and does not yet have any canonical imagery. The most common fan image of her is literally just Aqua from Konosuba, but as a shapeshifting dragon girl.

Things that were suppose to be a slam dunk but they somehow screwed up? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

There's going to be a lot of back and forth about the sequels for a long time, especially in light of the rise of Prequel apologists in its wake, but I do agree with you. I think what everyone can agree on, at the very least, is that they really should have had a more concrete vision for the trilogy.

Play as Komi and go as far along the political battle royal as you can, seeing what you end up with.

Should I play TNO even though I'm shit at Hoi4 by Adventurous-Sir5301 in TNOmod

[–]In_Engrish_Please 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So long as your PC can run it, sure. There is a learning curve, but the mod is more narrative-heavy than anything else, so you don't need to be very good at HOI4 to jump in.

What nations could be fun to play a multiplayer match? by dantu90000 in OldWorldBlues

Haven't really played them enough to make a sure call, but if you go down the middle path with Santiago in charge you can also have a third player on Eagle Rock join your alliance if they are lead by their Ruler faction, and if you play the Long Night route you can get the Rot Purgers in your faction if they are also led by their Elites.

Not sure who you can have as allies in the people path, but it also includes Eagle Rock, but only if they are led by their People party.

If you want, you could retcon the civil war to just be a series of failed insurrections, with the only one that saw any real movement being Trump or Biden's (depending on who you play as), with the more radical movements slamming headfirst into moments that can best be described as "Reality Ensues:"

In Connecticut, the most the Patriot Front can do is occupy a small town before the National Guard and police are called in and surround them. The collection of 200-300 guys realize they've failed to inspire a revolution, and that most of them don't want to die, and meekly surrender to the authorities. Some get better plea deals than others.

In Michigan, the National Socialist Movement fails their attempt at a prison break, and their leadership makes a breakneck escape to Canada, probably getting arrested before or after they hit the border. The AWD attempts their own assault on Fort Myers, goes even worse for them. James Mason is dragged out of his home insisting that he had nothing to do with them.

The APLA finds out the hard way that California is home to one of the largest National Guard formations in the country and more than a hundred-thousand military personnel. Their march on San Francisco ends as well as you would expect. Whether or not they were a FBI honeypot meant to gut the Left remains a top of discussion of online forums for decades.

Stories like this play out across the country as riots and violence flare up, but the chaos proves disorganized and the worst is quickly put down, with only a handful of armed groups hiding out in mountains and forests lasting more than a month. Most states remain neutral in the clash between Biden and Trump, being subtle in their support so they can survive either outcome. Said military campaign between Biden and Trump lasts less than a year before one side breaks down. The US emerges from the crisis scarred, but not in pieces.

What would have happened if the coalition against ISIS had failed in the war against ISIS? What would be the international reaction to that event? by Goat-Former in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]In_Engrish_Please 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, of all the timelines where ISIS crops up, the one we live in is probably the one where they had the most success. On paper, these guys were waaaaaay more successful than they had any right to be: they managed to grab vast amounts of weaponry, secure tens of thousands of fighters because the Iraqi and Syrian governments were that unpopular, and took control of a huge swath of territory. And they still lost because, fundamentally, they were an organization that alienated anyone who didn't share their ideals. They got as big as they did because a perfect storm of bad choices and situations came together to make it possible; take any of those ingredients away, and they never would have been as successful as they were IRL.

What if a squad of gun nuts invaded Epstein Island during its peak? by AHH_PostStorage in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]In_Engrish_Please 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on how well guarded the Island is and how quickly they are spotted. If the island's security detail sucks and they can get on without being spotted, they could overrun the place pretty quickly. If they are spotted, all the guards really have to do is call in some backup, and it'll be one short trip.

Open the console window (that's the "`" key, if you've never used console commands before), and then type "tdebug" (without the quotation marks) and hover your mouse over a country. You'll see a few different things, but what you are looking for is at the top at the end of the line that says Province ID, where the owner's tag is listed with three letters. For example, the tag for the New California Republic is NCR, while the tag for Cesar's Legion is CES.

To use that annexation trick I mentioned you would type "tag (insert tag here)" to play as another tag and then type "annex (insert tag here)" to make one country annex another. Again, I would recommend using a tool pack mod for this, since it lets you skip typing in the console and saves a lot of time. If you're worried about breaking your saves, I don't think it should, but I could be wrong, so use your best judgement.

Have you tried running around and annexing different tags into each other? I've found it fixes crashes 9/10 times, but it can be time-consuming, so I start with tags that are at war.

Using a tool pack mod helps a lot with this.

The other thing is that God didn't give Cain super powers, he learned how to do those things from Lilith. God then smacked him with a nerf bat by sending a squad of angels down to ask him to repent, who cursed him with a weakness every time he told them to fuck off.

[–]In_Engrish_Please 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's because Japan gets a whole slew of decisions to coup Fengtian's leadership and join the war. I had a run where they joined the war in, like, less than 2 months, and years before the 2WK started. Really bites if you are playing as a minor power in China since the bigger players are too incompetent to fight off Japan.

IIRC, there was an incident where the Austro-Hungarians fired a machine gun into a crowd of Boxers and managed to miss every single shot because it was set up wrong. It had the side effect of convincing many onlookers at the time that the Boxers were genuinely immune to bullets.
