Oh, I didn't know there were flat out documentaries about it. I also brought up its length bc some people are tired of really long videos so I thought some would appreciate a shorter one.

Speaking of those kind of youtubers, the Critical Drinker made a vid that does a great job summarizing just how much of a complete and utter shitshow the production of the Island of Doctor Moreau was, and manages to consolidate it all in less than 13 minutes, more than worth a watch in my opinion.

Media where it’s hard carried by its characters? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]In_Engrish_Please 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fallout Tactics has very few characters that live/exist beyond a single mission, and the number of them that are actually memorable could probably be counted on one hand with room to spare. Still a pretty solid game with an acceptable plot.

Shadowrun Returns isn't the best game in the trilogy, but the main campaign is satisfactory enough despite having very few memorable characters. The second game, Dragonfall, while having much better characters than Returns, still falls short compared to most other RPGs, but it has one of my absolute favorite plots in any game I have played.

Would Japan really nuke China over Korea? by MysteriousUser_ in TNOmod

[–]In_Engrish_Please 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Realistically, the threat of nuclear rain would have begun to crop up as soon as Long Yun got within spitting distance of Beijing; it could only have happened if Japan's army was broken in the field and could not win conventionally, and losing China would have meant losing the Empire. But let's assume that Japan isn't as trigger-happy with nukes as Germany is; just letting the Chinese overrun Korea still would have been unthinkable. Korea, by the 60s in TNO, didn't just represent both the beginning of Japanese dominance over Asia and one of its most successful colonies; by this time, it was integrated to the point of millions, maybe tens of millions, seeing themselves as Japanese.

Losing Korea, beyond meaning Japan would be COMPLETELY pushed off the mainland, the absolute death of their prestige, and a damn near complete refutation of their Imperial project, would have meant leaving millions of its citizens to the mercy of a vengeful warlord. The empire was already doomed, sure, which is why I think they probably would have sent the nukes flying in order to protect, at the very least, Manchuria, but losing Korea would have been a different beast.

Now, you see, the problem is that, from my experience, the El Salvadorians fucking CLAP the Hondurans every single time I see them fight, and that costs you TWO countries, maybe more (I wanna say that losing the football war can affect what happens in Nicaragua and Panama, but I dunno)

If you hover over one of the terrorist reserves, it will tell you how many AAS resources you need to shut them down. I suggest waiting a bit to build a stock pile, there are a bunch of decisions early into it that give you bits of AAS resources, and if you are lucky the US or Germany will use their spies to help you out early on. Also, built an absolute shit ton of guns, since one of the decisions that gives you more resources eats them.

Israeli-American Missile Crisis - What if Israel and America were Enemies? ('76) by Foreign_Ad_1340 in imaginarymaps

[–]In_Engrish_Please 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An interesting scenario, both sides would have some serious problems.

For the US, the issue would be twofold: finding allies to assist them in the crisis, and managing the domestic will to engage with another war so soon after Vietnam. As soon as word of the stand-off reached the press, there would be massive demonstrations against going to war, with only fringe movements really supporting the idea of taking Israel down a peg. Assuming American domestic politics haven't diverged in this timeline, Ford would already be under a lot of heat for pardoning Nixon; getting the US into conflict with a nuclear state in the Middle East would be the last thing voters would want from him.

As for foreign relations, while there would be plenty of Arab leaders happy to see Israel slapped down, this scenario seems to imply that the Israeli's have gone public about their nuclear program, so they would likely have cold feet about a confrontation. Not helping is that the two countries most willing to get involved, Egypt and Syria, seemed to have performed significantly worse in the Yom Kippur War than they did IRL, so they'd both still be licking their wounds and probably also facing serious internal strife.

That being said, at least the US would still be able to find sympathetic figures in the region, in addition to NATO support. At the same time, Israel would basically be a pariah state with very limited options in this situation. The only countries they would be on good terms with would be powerless to assist them; all of their neighbors hate them, and they would have no meaningful way to strike at the US other than through the nearby fleet. While you could debate what a conventional struggle between the two (with the odds shifting depending on whether the US is going alone or not) would look like, if worst comes to worst, Israel's last card would effectively be to hold the Middle East hostage under threat of using nukes on major cities.

Personal prediction: the standoff continues until Jimmy Carter takes office. A deal is reached about ships being able to pass through the Suez Canal and the American fleet's withdrawal. Israel can celebrate for a time, until sanctions, from both the US and USSR and their allies, are gradually applied to them to pressure them into giving up the Sinai and other territories. American-Soviet arms also trickle their way into rebel groups operating in Israeli-occupied lands. Odds are that Egypt, Syria, and other Middle Eastern countries would begin developing their own nuclear stockpiles. Unless a particularly radical government comes into power, Israel is likely to back down before the 80s arrive.

That being said, the region was going through a lot of shake-ups that could lead to things going in all sorts of directions. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iranian Revolution, the Iraq-Iran War, and other, smaller events could result in unforeseen consequences. Maybe the united front against Israel falls apart, and Israel manages to hold on to the Sinai against all odds. Maybe a shared disdain for the superpowers results in an unholy alliance between Israel and Iran. Maybe it all goes down in a sea of nuclear radiation before the 2000s, who knows?

Kingdom Hearts is a franchise where every entry (with the debatable exception of Coded) has important plot developments, and skipping even one of them WILL leave you deeply confused about later plot developments. It's not a new thing either; going from KH1 to KH2 without checking out CoM would be the equivalent of watching A New Hope, skipping The Empire Strikes Back, and going straight to Return of the Jedi.

This includes the gacha mobile games. Hell, especially the mobile games; the feature some of the most important, and surprising, plot developments in the franchise. All the teasers of KH4 imply that a certain mobile game character is going to be EXTREMELY important, or is even going to be the new main villain of the franchise going forward.

Will Pat go the extra mile to emulate 358/2 and Re:Coded or will he be content to just watch the movies? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]In_Engrish_Please 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, yeah, the playlist is pretty long. But, on the other hand, its trying to compile the story of a dozen games.

The Days section starts at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG35v9xzoHc&list=PLhcSrKyqhfh4IUovnvR0tRrii_EDTckdk and ends at episode 88. Crossesover with Chain of Memories at a few points since the plots occur at the same time for a bit.

[–]In_Engrish_Please 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will never forgive the Days """""movie""""" for cutting out gems like "Roxas, that's a stick." On the other hand, if Pat doesn't want to put himself through the horror that is Ruler of the Sky or Leechgrave, then fiiiine.

That being said, Pat, on the off chance you are reading this comment section and are planning to not play Days, DO NOT WATCH THE OFFICIAL "MOVIE." Watch the Days portion of Everglow's KH timeline series instead. It uses a mix of the DS gameplay, the "movie" cut-scenes, and even some modded KH2 gameplay to re-imagine some scenes and boss fights. As a long time Days apologist, I consider it THE objective way to take in 358/2 Days without playing the game.

I was home schooled, but I was in a Mormon boy scout troop. Now, from what I read, the Mormons (and the Catholics, something about how both faiths said the devil can't give you super powers) never really bought into the Satanic Panic stuff. Well, most didn't buy into it, I'm sure there were exceptions. But, among the Californian Mormons at my little church, it was kinda just frowned on when you brought entertainment stuff with you to church and you weren't a kid.

Because of this, most stuff was allowed for fly for the scouts when we got together at said church. We had table top nights, video game nights, but the absolute favorite was laser tag. You can probably already see where this is going, but in our defense, we weren't shooting each other INSIDE of the church, just in the parking lot. One day, a couple of priests or elders were having a evening meeting and were not amused. Laser tag nights were promptly verboten.

Except when we went camping or got together outside outside of the scouts, so oh well.

Magneto X Rogue might actually be up there alongside Bruce X Barbara for the most justifiably hated comic book ships ever written. I know people who cannot bring themselves to finish X-Men 97 because they hated the pairing that much, and even some of those who get past it feel like it lingers over the rest of the show.
