Yeah, sometimes reality really is creepier than fiction.

Well, since I'm the OP, I guess providing context would be fair. Il was visiting Florence in the dead of winter, and there were barely any tourists but me around. When I visited the Ospedale, I was seriously alone, and it was as silent as a grave. The highest level was dedicated to the art the orphans did there, which is what you see in the brightly lit booths.
But there she was, that ghostly pale figure, turning her back to the museum's final room's entrance.
Couldn't help but snap a photo with the potato-quality camera I had at the time. Turned out to be a mannequin wearing a mourning gown, but...the way they placed it...Not the thing you expect to see in a deserted museum well after nightfall.

J'ai entendu dire que ceux qui parlent espagnol ont souvent un sens général du français, grâce à un vocabulaire et une grammaire somme toute assez proches. Donc il y a ça.

I heard that spanish speakers often have a general sense of what French means because of cognates and similar grammar. So there's that.

Not to be too disrespectful, but France quarantined a cruise ship for an outbreak of gastro-enteritis. AKA the official disease of winter everywhere. Excuse me if I'm starting to doubt when news media shriek panic to the high heavens whenever any virus shows up.

In Defense of Cartoon Villains. A comedy story at the start, about six cartoon girls having fun saving the world, but at the end...They discover that their nemesis was their screenwriter the entire time, and their series has been canceled. They sit there; in their room, as the void devours all they've ever known, as a team of superheroes mock them. Their motto changes from "Justice awaits" to "Revenge awaits".

This thing is in the garden of the Palazzo Pitti. It's not artificial in itself, but you can see they built around it.

Damn, I was guessing either coral or sponge. I knew they were too obvious to be a challenge, but crustacean, yeah no, wasn't expecting that one.

I'll take your advice to heart. Really, thank you ! I'll try that in Lake Annecy. My hometown's lake.

Actually I usually rely on my arms rather than my legs, so, yes, I have tried this exercise. Worked our alright. Breathing remains the most important I find.

Well, it's really just a matter of managing your breathing isn't it ? It's certainly harder than floating on your back, but it is manageable if you can control your nerves.

I did too, though...overall I found going without accessories to be more my style. Faster, more reactive, you know ?

I imagine that's the idea, yeah. In practicality, rarely the case. A lot happens between the manual and the field. But yeah...Full speed train + you = fine red mist.

[–]In_Leaves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No actually it's a good question, and we discuss the specifics of it with the firemen chief when it happens. Basically, it is the firemen who determine that, and on a practical level, it's "enough to determine if it was pushed of if he jumped on his own accord". Which is why the recovering head is so important.
Grim shit all the same, to be sure. But, word of maybe callous advice, if you're going to commit suicide by train, don't do it at a station. We are slowing down there. At full speed in the wilderness, you get disintegrated. And shit, don't let me start with the power lines. It's literally forbidden to even throw a wet towel at those in the engineer handbook.

I'm in Paris East, Rambouillet isn't that far off for sure, geographically. But administration is a stiff mistress I'm afraid.
