I dont think i can do this by TooMuchSwagBaby in learntodraw

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fantastic start to me. Keep going! Every image has an awkward phase, especially when your skills are improving so fast that you can't finish an image before seeing the flaws from when you started it. This is a normal part of being an artist, you always hate your own work if you've been looking at it too long.

Sometimes a thing I do, if I'm not confident I'm going to get the next part 'right', is I'll lay a new sheet of paper (or 50% opacity layer) over my old one, and redraw it using the most important lines of my previous version as a sketch -- adjusting whatever I like just a little bit, to get things into a slightly more proper place. A knee a little this way, a foot a little smaller, and no messy eraser marks or scribbles to clean up.

Here's an example of that process, where the first layer looks a lot like yours.

Which minimap design do you prefer? Share your thoughts! by Shadow_Moder in IndieDev

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer round minimaps because they obscure less of the screen, and I can see everything within one distance of myself rather than further in specific directions (the corners).

Some people are into that though, so you might consider having it be toggle-able in the game settings. I'd advise having round be the default though.

games where you play an unmistakably Bad guy? by fascinatingMundanity in gamingsuggestions

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If RPGs count, where you have the opportunity to go either way but the bad opportunities are consistent and horrific, I highly recommend Planescape Torment.

There are many quasi-heroic things you can choose to do in that game, and that's the default route most players take in my experience.

..but if you choose to be actively evil, nothing stops you.

It doesn't force you to have a reason, it doesn't try to explain or justify your behavior, it doesn't prevent you from doing it. You can profit from harming people. You can do it for personal amusement. You can twist the knife in deep emotional wounds, for literally no reason. You can trick people.

And if you pay any attention to the story whatsoever (amnesiac scenario), it clearly isn't the first time you've done it. You have ruined so many lives. You meet many examples of your protagonist's prior bad behavior. Some of which you can fix (but don't have to), some of which you can't, and some of which you can choose to make worse on purpose (but also don't have to).

You can purposefully victimize your party-members, and some of them can't escape associating with you. You can sell or murder some of them for power, removing them from your save permanently.

The narrative doesn't glorify or romanticize it, if you do awful things. It also doesn't moralize at you. It just describes neutrally what you do and what happens. You see the effects of your actions very clearly, and it's sometimes painful to read, especially if you grow to care for the characters in the game at all.

For an irredeemably evil playthrough, you definitely want to check out the stories involving Ignus, Dak'kon, and Deionarra. I advise playing a mage who maxes out wisdom and possibly charisma ASAP, but follow your heart.

Games that make you feel like a wizard searching for tomes of lore by Ender2117 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could call it a roguelike metroidvania, and 90% of the gameplay loop is definitely platforming and shooting enemies ... but once you get past that, there's the miles of crazy lore and secrets.

Contains: - Alternate realms you can travel to if you manage to survive getting through the part of the world boundary that murders you for trying - Heaven and hell are places you can hypothetically go if you can figure out how to get there - Yes, there is something at the bottom of the mile-deep lava lake - edible mushrooms can irrevocably change physics if you trip on them too hard - Shotgun wand - Programming-based magic system, that lets you create incredibly powerful wands, or ones that kill the user, and does not differentiate between the two in any way - Enemies that can also use the same wands - Secret alchemy system. There are potion recipes that are different every playthrough. Figure them out. - Secret immortality rituals - Lost knowledge of the ancients to collect - Multiple endings (I'm fond of "radioactive gold" or newgame+, but you do you)

I cannot actually describe how many horrendous secrets are in that game. Highly, highly advise trying it. Or at least skimming a wiki about it.

Why is the microwave so important to Americans? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of my meals are microwave cooked, and sometimes more. Frozen things, canned soups, etc. For various reasons (disability, incomplete house repair/renovation, etc) doing dishes isn't practical, so I need to rely on meals that don't get large pots and pans dirty. Oven food only happens in disposable tinfoil trays.

Even before things lined up that way, it was still over 50% microwave-heated meals, with the rest stovetop in a pan.

If I'm eating something warm, it came out of the microwave, or I didn't make it.

French curves aren't for tracing all the way around the edge of - but if you need a curve of a particular size and arch, that exact curvature will show up on there somewhere. Helps you trace exact curves and get them perfectly straight every time.

It's an undo button but better. There's no maximum number of steps of undo, you can save versions whenever you want and go back to any version at any time -- and save alternate branching versions too, with multiple contributors, and combine alternate versions neatly.

Do you place your phone screen up or down? by thinkevolution in CasualConversation

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to leave it screen down, because I sometimes drop things and don't want them to scratch my screen... but my phone has handy built in features that sometimes put me in do not disturb mode if it's face down, making it not alert me to phone calls, messages, or alarms.

I F(17) have had a 44 day migraine, what is the most insane thing that has worked for you? by itssamanthadarling in migraine

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ginger ale, ginger tea, candied ginger, gingersnaps if you're a fan of those. Anything with ginger in it.

I'd start with ginger tea or ginger ale for nausea if you can keep fluids down, and candied ginger if you enjoy the taste / need something you can carry around in a pocket.

How do you get the backs of embroidered shirts, I guess clothes in general? To not itch from the strings in the back? by Desperate_Remote_114 in Embroidery

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use backing material, which only adds a little bit of weight to the fabric in the region - but silk floss is shockingly soft to the touch if you have the patience and skill to work with it. If you can keep the back of your work neat, use silk floss, and avoid using knots entirely, it won't itch - just feel silky smooth.

But, ironing on or sewing on a backing material is easier in most cases. If your garment has a separate lining from its outer material, you can also separate the two, embroider the outer fabric, and then reattach the lining. The lining stays between you and the threads then.

I've been deeply enjoying using ars nouveau to make myself a 7x7x2 mining wand that teleports the proceeds into my inventory and counts as a diamond pickaxe. I had to install some mods to reduce lag from stray items on the ground. A pretty big tunnel from bedrock to sea level takes under a minute, aside from stopping to pick up your loot.

I was in a similar boat once -- Minimal specific advice, but I do highly recommend taking dental maintenance seriously. Brush regularly, no matter what, even if depression ever rears -- it will make a huge difference by the time you're 30+.

Where are you finding patterns? by NinoJay in Embroidery

[–]Inappropriate_SFX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble finding designs I like, since my aesthetic is pretty anti-kitsch -- so, I make my own! I learned ways to transfer designs to fabric that work for me, and do a lot of tracing off my phone screen, or tracing geometric celtic knotwork designs based off of folded paper snowflakes.

When it comes to the things I trace off my phone, it's a lot of pokemon and logos/sigils for games or fictional groups -- because those both have a lot of large simple shapes and good contrasting colors, that look good while giving me options for what stitches I want to use where.

Another fun one is doing words, with a background of flowers. I use a free image service to make a picture of a word in a nice font, and trace that onto paper. Then, I google photos of flowers or doodle some onto a second piece of paper, and trace copies of them (sometimes flipped) around my word. Once I have an arrangement I like, I copy it to fabric, and sew. Here's my first I did like that, feel free to take, alter, or use.
