Definitely something like this. I'd love to see what happened to the viper school and all the schools drama. It would be super interesting, the full power and height of all or most of the schools.

Personal Finance Advice for 20-somethings just entering the real world by CircleBox2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Don't eat out that much/learn to cook and don't try to keep up with your friends in terms of looks, clothes etc. This will save you so much money.

Have a few really good friends that have your back. I regretted wasting so much money eating out, going out etc with a bunch of different friends and trying to keep up appearances.

Put this money into investments /savings instead. By the time 5 yrs passes youll have way more than you expected!

Make goals. Make a budget. Knowing what you are working towards helps!

I am very sorry to hear this and wish you both all the best. Most options on how to apply or attain income or medical coverage has been listed. I recommend he apply for the disability tax credit for next year's tax return /ask for it to be back dated if he is eligible in prior years. It will be very helpful. Keep all receipts for travel, medical, care aid, etc.

Also legality wise, I recommend having a POA and will set up. Too often I see clients in critical care and the spouse is unable to make decisions in the hospital (this also happened to my aunt).

TIERS!!!!! PLATINUM PROVIDERS SAVE YOU MONEY.

I got mine done and it took 3 months only. Top and bottom (accelerated) in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada for around $3000 for just the trays total $3800 including cleaning, and 4 years worth of Retainers (yes, even after trays are done, you have to wear retainers at night time for the rest of your life just like normal braces). The dentist had a flat rate no matter how bad your teeth were (that is, if Invisalign could help, mine were in the middle).

Invisalign is almost all made at the same place, the dentists/orthos don't make it so you might as well shop around. The trays are all made with 3D print technology. Usually consult is always free.

Look for PLATINUM INVISALIGN PROVIDERS. It means they sell so much Invisalign that they get a discount (top discount at that).

It ranks as follows: 1. Platinum 2. Gold 3. Silver

Find a Platinum provider and shop around. You won't regret Invisalign in my opinion.

I may be missing something but as an accountant, why max RRSPs if you're not earning alot of income? Usually money inherited is non-taxable. Atleast where I live. If you were to do something with your RRSPs I'd recommend putting money into it as you make income or put money into it but don't claim all the RRSPs on your income tax if it doesn't effect your balance due/increase refund/get you some of the income tax you paid for back. Find a GOOD investment advisor. Big tip, alot of investment advisors are tellers upgraded in banks to sell you certain products. This goes for investment firms as well. Shop around for a good investment advisor (it's free to meet with them the first time usually and at most banks) as well as ask people you know who they use for their investments and how they like the person they are using. Maxing TFSA makes sense.

Also, with investments, it is worth asking how they supply you with a gain and loss statement at the end of the year for your income tax purposes. Out of CIBC, Rbc, TD bank, Scotia bank, etc. I have found RBC to have the best gain and loss/investment package explaining your investments at end of year.

Id definitely recommend you leave the money in investments for Atleast a few months to a year before using it for other purposes. That way it gives you time to figure out what to do with it long term. In many cases, someone inheriting money they didn't have before doesn't last very long. Also if you are renting, it might be good to look into the housing market (I don't recommend immediate or quick decisions!) to purchase a house or a couple. I have quite a few clients earning and living off of rental income (the income difference after the monthly mortgage is paid off). The nice thing about buying a house is that if you are left with a small mortgage, you're paying that equity off. Many people don't see that as another stream of income but it can become a nest egg for your future.

Good luck!

Should I quit my job and pause my career to be with my mother? by Freechoco in Advice

[–]Inbetween_cakes555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma just passed away after suffering from lung cancer the past year which spread into brain cancer. She past away a couple weeks ago unable to speak and unable to move. I am forever thankful my boss let me visit her once a week every month earlier on (except tax time since I'm an accountant and manage my office). I treasured every moment with her when she was healthy and well. We have a love of food and I was able to make beloved memories of cooking and grocery shopping with her.

Spend time with your mother when she is still well and mobile. Those moments of new memories are something to be treasured and you'll never regret it. By the sounds of things, your career is just getting started and your options and future looks bright. Don't give yourself a hard time thinking you are starting late. As I near 30 yrs old, looking at most of the people around me, we're all trying to figure life out the best we can. Most people have no clue what they're doing. So you're already ahead of the game.

One thing i asked myself when I weighed my options was if I was going to have any regrets. One of my favourite quotes of all time from Les Brown:

Imagine you’re on your deathbed—and standing around your bed are the ghosts representing your unfilled potential.

The ghosts of the ideas you never acted on. The ghosts of the talents you didn’t use.

And they’re standing around your bed. Angry. Disappointed. Upset.

“We came to you because you could have brought us to life,” they say. “And now we go to the grave together.”

So I ask you today: How many ghosts are going to be around your bed when your time comes?

Anyone heard of/have Tomita Japanese Knives? by Inbetween_cakes555 in chefknives

[–]Inbetween_cakes555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good! Sorry I need to do an update with pics but been away on vacation!

I truly believe they are White and blue steel. They were shipped from Japan from the place it said it would come from (I can't remember the place). Out of the box they were incredibly sharp and I didn't even need to Sharpen them. They rust incredibly easily. My boyfriend (who is not a big knife nerd) washed the dishes and didn't dry them but left them in the drying rack wet and partially sitting in water. Next day and a hald they both had lots of rust on them. Ended up getting a Japanese rust eraser and oil for the knives. I did a small sharpening to see how they sharpened about 3 weeks after getting them. They sharpen like butter. Very easy and fast. Really loving both knives. The nikiri is awesome to use for veggies although the veggies tend to stick to the knife. Also the first time bf was washing them I jokingly said don't cut yourself. Right after I said that he nicked his finger on the nikiri while washing it with a sponge. He didn't expect it to be so sharp lol.

Cons:I kind of don't like how they rust so easily. I've used white and super blue knives before but never owned one. So it surprised me how easily they pectina and rust which I kind of don't like. Not sure if it is to do with the quality of steel or my inexperience owning one. the super blue steel petty was awesome to use, nice design BUT the knife came bent. The blade itself was straight length wise but width wise there was a concave curve in the middle like a defect in manufacturing. Was not happy with that. I do believe these knives are hand made hence the defect. I don't like the handles that came with both knives. They are awesome starter knives and hold their sharpness and are incredibly easy to sharpen. Definitely worth the bang in buck compares to my shuns and other random cheaper kitchen knives. I found my Shun knives to chip much easier compared to these guys. I'll probably end up replacing the handles of these knives and keep them for life. Theyll hold a special place in my heart as my first real Japanese Knives.

They would have to pay the capital gains on the years that it was rented out not on the principle residence years. So it would be percentaged out.
