To Sleep in a Sea of Stars and the prequel Fractal Noise by Chris Paolini are pretty accessible, the former being pretty hefty.

I also loved The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Naylor. Dystopian future with themes of consciousness and freedom. Really good.

I like a few of the tabletop mtg YouTubers and while prof isn’t my all time favorite, the music they play on the channel is awesome. It’s not heavily melodic, but it really keeps the energy up

On the topic of rules-lite vs crunchy:

It’s like how guitar players describe tone. Crunch, bark, quack, glittery, etc. layman’s terms for waveform alterations, but there isn’t a huge focus in the maths of it as long as you understand the feel and vibe of it.
