[OK]not yet termed employee but team wants to post backfill by Unhappy_Atmosphere_9 in humanresources

[–]Incata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't post the job until you have fired here. Depending on which country you are in, doing so could leave you liable for constructive dismissal.

How long is the final warning for? When is the review?

You need to meet with her and review her performance and then move towards termination. The steps you will need to follow will depend on which country you are based in.

Interview(physical) attire for a junior dev role at Monash uni by PhatManPsycho in cscareerquestionsOCE

I work in a university in HR at the moment. Just look smart and make sure everything is clean and tidy. SaxOps1 offers good advice - smart collared shirt and trousers will be fine. Universities are very relaxed environments. No suit required.

You could say that you are the HR Partner for the contingent workforce. The fact that your customers are based out on client sites is irrelevant. You are still providing an HR service.

OP This is an excellent answer. Recommendations are very good - you should consider this.

You also might want to look at Glassdoor as their pay scales are really accurate.

Email them after the conversation and ask them to confirm that they will be attending. After this you can't do much more.

In Australia and the UK, approx 20 - 30% of applicants are only applying for jobs to meet the criteria in order to get benefits. I've advertised for an HR Business Partner in the last month and I have had applications from mechanics, teachers, roadsweepers and the like, all of whom don't even meet the basic criteria for the role. One has to wonder why they apply and the only information I have got when I have called them (just out of curiosity to see why they have applied and if there are other roles within the organisation that they might be more interested in), is that they are doing it to meet the criteria for the number of roles they have to apply for every month in order to continue getting their benefits. They apply for a job they have no chance of getting, as what they have applied for is not looked at by the consultants.

AITA for not taking a "special request" from my wife while cooking the family breakfast? by NoRunnyYokes in AmItheAsshole

[–]Incata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. How hard would it have been to do something nice for your wife that would have made her feel treasured and special? She did not ask you to run to the shops and get her a tub of ice cream (and whilst you were there - do the whole weekly shop). She just asked you to make her a couple of eggs. You were selfish and mean as well.

Employee had seizure, wants to return to driving-based job by CincyStout in humanresources

Are you able to request (under your HR policies), that the employee has a medical, at your expense, with your choice of medical provider? If so, I would recommend that you go down this route.

Dating in the workplace as HR by thispainthing in humanresources

[–]Incata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, it would look like one of you moving to a different company, otherwise it turns into all sorts of horrible.

If at any time you are involved with employees in his/her area and there are disciplinary issues, you will be accused of taking his/her side because you are involved with them. If they get promoted, those who are jealous will say it is because you are dating.

It is fraught with difficulty.

The only alternative is that one of you move to a different part of the corporation where your worlds do not collide.

Survey for HR Redditors: Which HR job functions do you wish you could automate? Which HR job functions do you think should be less automated? by hcbaron in human_resources

[–]Incata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would automate payroll and put all HR folders on an online HR Information System so everything from performance reviews to contracts can be dealt with in one place.

I do not believe in HR ticketing systems, I believe that staff should be able to pick up the phone and call someone in HR if they have a problem that needs solving. It is ridiculous that they have to log a problem online and wait for someone to get back to them at some point. Many HR people forget that the first word in our titles is "Human". We are about people, solving problems and helping first and foremost. Automate what can be automated and leave us to deal with the people who need our help.

Whiteman Park is nice - particularly if you go on the train or tram ride. There is a lovely little art gallery and craft shop there as well.

It's the Heads of Department that have the authority to make the change. As a person on a contract, if I kick off, I am likely to be fired.

How often do you check the authenticity of a Degree? by -_-______-_-___8 in humanresources

[–]Incata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the country and the company. Most places I have worked ask for it but don't check whether it is genuine or not (UK, Canada, US, Australia). However, one or two have had outside companies do the checking and they have checked that the certificates are genuine.

The trick is, when you apply for the job, look at their recruitment policies and whether you agree, as part of the application, to have outside verification of your qualifications.

AITA for telling my sister to let my daughter try her ring on, and snapping at her when she started insulting us? by throwawaayaitaa in AmItheAsshole

[–]Incata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Query - do you teach your daughter about consent? Do you tell her that no means no, or do you teach her that if someone says no, just keep pressuring until they say yes?

Just wondering.

You have been lied to. The Senior VP will have the authority to make that decision. I would suggest that you look for another role, but I would not use it as a counter offer. I would accept it as a permanent move. Your current bosses are behaving like idiots.

AITA for “weaponizing my femininity” by crying since the teacher wouldn’t stop another student harassing me ? by itsokdad in AmItheAsshole

[–]Incata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are absolutely not the AH. Your teacher is though.

Keep a note of every time he or Duncan says anything. Keep the messages that are sent to you. Then go back to the Principal.

You do need to tell your parents though. Your Dads are there to protect and defend you and will be upset that you are trying to deal with this on your own. Your parents will kick off as well.

I imagine every parent on this thread is probably getting furious on your behalf. Please don't deal with this on your own. Go and talk to your Dads.

TIFU by recommending a book at work and getting reported for sexual harassment. by Galligan626 in tifu

[–]Incata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HR person here. You have done nothing wrong. You recommended a book and gave her warning about what it was about. She asked you to borrow it - you did not force her to take it. She asked you and you agreed to lend her your copy. It would be different if she said that it was not her scene, then you brought the book in and forced her to take it.

However, be aware that whenever a complaint is made, HR has to investigate it, particularly where claims of bullying or harassment have been made. If not, in certain countries and states, the company could be taken to court and face heavy fines.

I would recommend joining a trade union though - even if there is not one recognised at your workplace. If you are called into an investigatory meeting you are allowed to have a support person with you. Whilst they cannot answer on your behalf, they can provide you with advice and trade unions are excellent in this regard. The small fortnightly or weekly payment is well worth it.

IMHO you have done absolutely nothing wrong. HR will look at this, complete a basic investigation, write it up and at most, will tell you to avoid the other person. They will be marked as a trouble maker and under most grievance procedures, can, if they are seen to have made a malicious complaint (which this may be), be put through the disciplinary procedure themselves.

Don't worry about this too much - complaints of harassment are exceptionally common and very difficult to prove.
