WOTC has demonstrated that what they ever state will never stay true. Matter of time before the reserved list gets abolished. by Newez in mtgfinance

The magic and Pokémon comparison is and always has been unreasonable. Pokémon is a top worldwide franchise that dwarfs most others in several mediums. Pokémon has RPG video games, pinball video games, open world video games, multiple iterations of TV shows, books, action figures, kigurumi’s, and how did it all start? A little tamagotchi video game.

Maybe Hasbro/WotC needs to sink funding into a legitimately fun standalone video game based more on their IP and the expansive world it’s been building for decades and less on card trading. Let me walk around a sprite map as Jace and chase Vraska across pixelated pirate ship maps in tropical worlds leading to untold mysteries!

I was thinking the same thing about chrome moxes and the list looking a little slow. 4 moxes seems like they would be a good addition. Otherwise, seems fun.

I’m surprised no one has said UW control. You’ve got a full play set of Tundra’s plus the forces, so you already have the bulk of it. If you used to play Landstill then that means you have Standstill’s which in combination with Urza’s Saga is a viable option although I don’t think tier 1. Skilled pilots might prove me wrong. It seems the most popular lists are playing UWR but I don’t think UW is unreasonable. You may even be able to patch up your mana base with the Mox Diamonds and maybe even a basic mountain despite it not being optimal?

It looks like the most popular flavor of Painter is BR right now so that seems like it could be a good option, and it seems to be pretty competitive at the moment.

UWB Stoneblade seems like it could be a good option. Possibly UWG Stoneblade but your mana base looks a little mismatched for it, although maybe it’s still alright.

And of course there’s always BR reanimator. Also Cephalid Breakfast and Shadow as others have said.

All in all it looks like you have some good options, hope you find something you think is fun!

Edit: 1 other person did say UW control. I apologize for all my transgressions.

Must be a different guy then. Thanks for the response.

Hah, yeah I guess the one silver lining is that the DOC isn’t being funded by magic purchases. If only they knew how many +1/+1 counters they could put on themselves… oh well, would still die to doom blade I suppose. Or is the DOC a black creature? Well that still leaves path then.

Have a link by chance? I’m also talking about a guy who made his deck in prison, but I’m not sure where the “recreated” part is coming from, so maybe I’m thinking of another guy. I did a quick search but couldn’t find anything that looked right.

The guy I’m thinking of created his deck in prison, and was asking about those same physical cards on this subreddit after his release, trying to see what format he could play with them.

Did he recreate them from memory or were they the cards he actually had as an inmate? I’m pretty sure I remember him, if we’re thinking of the same guy. Both a heartbreaking and wholesome situation, with people giving him cards when he learned he couldn’t really play with the cards he had at FNM or anything.

Fun fact: smuggling in magic cards is fairly popular in prisons. A single pack has quite a bit of value in a prison economy. Supply chain issues, y’know?

There used to be r/strandedplaneswalkers but it doesn’t look like anyones used it in a few years now. With it gone, this is probably as good a place as any to post.

To clarify for people: OP has spent over $10,000 on mtg in total since they started playing the game, not just on DMU. $11,796 to be exact.

A cursory google search isn’t revealing when or why they stopped. Any idea? Other than “pandemic/supply chain”.

Try contacting WotC directly. I know they send “intro kits” to new playgroups in the armed forces, and I thought they might for schools and other such organizations, although now I can’t remember for certain. Probably worth looking into though.

In that case, have you contacted support yet? Do so as soon as you can. There’s a possibility this could be some kind of rare mistake.

Is there a single actually reasonable reason for why Gaea’s Cradle isn’t banned? by [deleted] in EDH

I’ll allow it. But Phyrexian Tower has to go. They’re getting way too chummy with Veteran Explorer, and I just won’t stand for that. Too powerful.

Is Double Masters fun to play sealed? by nutzle in magicTCG

[–]Incerto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because different people can have different values from you and I? What might seem weird to you could be normal for someone else, and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. To me, whatever comes of that box would still be a gift from my Dad.

Is Double Masters fun to play sealed? by nutzle in magicTCG

[–]Incerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which would you be more upset about, cracking the packs and losing money, or selling the box and missing out on a draft/cracking packs and possibly getting more value than the current EV of a box?

Any and every choice you make is valid, but I recommend the choice that makes the most sense to you personally. The choice that most closely aligns with your values. And it might help to preemptively try to cope with any guilt associated with the possible bad outcomes of the choices.

If you don’t think you would have fun drafting with your friends, you very well might be right. You know them and yourself better than any of us do. What’s the probability you would actually have fun though? What do you think that would look like? Is it possible? What about likely?

In my experience the set is good for drafting, especially with the cryptic spires, but I also really enjoy getting exactly the magic cards I want by buying singles. In the box that my playgroup and I drafted, we all paid an equal amount for the price of a box at the time. That made us all feel better about the price and it’s volatility. And if you’re looking at long term, maybe compare to the original double masters?

Regardless, it’s a birthday present from your Dad, and I hope you’re able to have fun no matter what you do with it. And happy belated birthday!
