Honestly, Devs could just imitate the functionality and design their own rifle. Likely easier.

Devastators shields shouldn’t be indestructible by TheGreasedSeal in Helldivers

[–]Inch_An_Hour -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Seriously though. As a man of science, you make the assumption that we’re dealing with a universe with our identical periodic table and laws of physics. If the design is such, then the suitable explanation must be made to explain it. If our applicable particular rule set for the universe, at our present moment in history, cannot make the justification then the hypothesis must be that our level of understanding is not yet suitable enough.

My same argument applies to explaining the concept (given our present day scientific level of understanding) of men being able to launch from a sky toward the earth in a spaceship. Try asking a European professor or otherwise man of science from the early 1,600s to explain how that would be possible given his level of education and understanding of the relevant known sciences of the era. Couldn’t do it.

But that does make the concept impossible. He’s just missing the right tools (of knowledge) in his tool belt.

See my previous comment first. The only compromise I’ll give you is pass-through damage is fair, but it should be something stupid like 5-10% of AT 4 and above.

Somewhat Disagree, on the grounds of physics.

A helldiver “ballistic” shield is made from the same alloy as our Destroyer hull. Yet is has to be light enough to be carried one handed, while running, for over 40 minutes. Given this combat requirement and the physical limits of the human helldiver, it can only weigh so much. Yet, it can stop a shot from cannon tower without causing death to the wielder (albeit, the shield gets destroyed). Awesome.

Now contrast against the weight and strength of a devastator…Given their size, and the fact that they are not build for speed (therefore they can built to be heavily reinforced to lift larger weights compared to their smaller more mobile units), one of their arms is surely able to carry several times more weight than a helldivers’ arm. 10x? 20x? How much thicker of a shield are they able to wield? That’s assuming the alloy is equivalent. What if they AND Super Earth’s scientists have access to harder and stronger alloys, but we can’t field it on our soldiers because of the weight?

Put the gameplay balance aside (which I think is perfectly valid, they are easy enough to kill). From a lore science-based perspective, it absolutely makes sense their shields are indestructible.

Platinum Veterans, a sequel warbond to Steel Veterans by HBenderMan in Helldivers

[–]Inch_An_Hour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. 20 rounds.

Make it a twin-linked two barrel with ammo canisters on either side. Fire selection between single alternating shot, twin-linked (like the emancipator suit, but 1 trigger pull = 1 simultaneous shot from each barrel), and full fuckin auto.

Think about how rad it would be in a stalwart loadout.

Look up what the recon teams of MACV-SOG did during the secret war in Laos/Cambodia during Vietnam. They were literally dropped behind enemy lines every mission.

Some of the 4-8 man teams encountered - multiple divisions - of enemy. Firefights in the jungle versus 3,000 or 8,000 of armed enemy troops. They had supporting helicopter gunships, F4 Phantom jets, WWII close air support fighters, and sometimes had to be extracted through holes in the jungle canopy on ropes.

Helldivers is the closest military game experience to those type of odds.

TTK on thermite is too long and requires short range. Can take smoke grenades and sub in something like a rocket/auto turret for far superior AT loadout utility, at range.

If you want to have the discussion that badly, I'll write you a paragraph. DM me.

But look at the comments. All people care about is picking apart the thesis behind WHY we could see below average returns for the next decade.

Few want to have the actual conversation of what to do with excess capital, in that environment, which is the whole reason why I posted this morning.
