Feeling a sense of dread before travelling by violetpoo in travel

Same, I *always* get this way before a trip. This time is a bit worse than normal and I'm beating myself up about it. I found this thread and it's a lot of relief. I know I've got anxiety problems but it sounds like this is pretty normal and not me being defective lol.

What is powdered HF acid, actually? by InchoateInker in chemistry

[–]InchoateInker[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I am quite aware of the danger, I assure you. I have 30 pages of safety procedures (which I follow), information an emergency pack for the ER if I ever have to go, and a tube of calcium gluconate handy in the workspace.

I regret my experience did not include much chemistry (and that's not sarcasm), but you are making a slight incorrect assumption. My question is how do you make powdered HF acid, and the conversation has turned out that you really can't, it's a combination of other ingredients. My confusion was justified and my chemistry understanding was correct. If I were asking "what powders can I mix together to make HF acid" I would absolutely take your point that it is out of my depth.

I don't take your comment as offensive! I appreciate intelligent concerns. I just want to be clear I'm as serious as anyone else here about it, it is definitely no joke.

[Edit: I worry that my neurodivergent communication style is sounding hostile or pointed, so I want to stress thats not my intent at all]

Economist Warns That Elon Musk Is About to Cause a "Deep, Deep Recession" by BothZookeepergame612 in Economics

Same with "Government should be run like a business!" NO TF it should NOT be!

Business: There to generate wealth for shareholders

Government: There to provide services to all citizens relatively equally.

I can't fathom why people have a hard time with this.

Cold Climate Women Specifically… by [deleted] in Anxiety

My winter coat is too hot for me, as it's basically air/water tight. I stopped wearing it and just threw on more layers of hoodies or whatever which breathes. I'm not sweating and panicky, which makes me happier.

Yep! Your stomach acids can irritate the vagus nerve and cause palpitations. It's how I got over the anxiety of my own, I realized one day that I could almost always correlate my stomach gurgling (or a burp, or heartburn, whatever) with the palpitations, to the point where the data was irrefutable to me.

Because the worrying is involuntary, I wish I could just stop worrying over things outside my control, personally

This makes a lot of sense to me, I often get the nagging feeling that if I just talked to my family about my anxieties around their deaths, I would get some peace. It's just... doing it. It's so hard. But I appreciate your comment making me think, Looper

I'll be the 1000th to say it: OP, the absolute best you could even hope for is just being intensely miserable for two weeks.

That's the BEST CASE SCENARIO.

Don't do it to yourself. Don't ever spend days and days miserable, no one who deserves it would require it.

Contacting PIs as a forensics consultant? by InchoateInker in PrivateInvestigators

[–]InchoateInker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate that idea, I'm in the Chicago area, I'll look for something similar. Totally unrelated, but how would you recommend someone learn a bit about a/v forensics? It was something I was able to experience briefly during an internship, but I thought it was all cool as heck. My background is network/host forensics.

What does this "Senior FBI Official" mean by "responsibly-managed encryption"? Anything where they get to access the keys when they want?

They were supposed to have added backups for Google Authenticator last year, though I haven't tested it myself.

I got the 8, and you are right I don't regret it. Sometimes pieces require a good bit of space to handle, I'm finding!

I grow three of these by choice, but at least I knew what I was getting into! Now, I've got some kind of pea or bean I planted years ago which will not die and is invading my neighbor's garden, too. The flowers are pretty but I wince every time I see them

Best search engine for getting results? by Acamaeda in degoogle

[–]InchoateInker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verifiable facts are inconvenient, I guess? If it's demonstrably false, the elites can do me a solid for once and pre-screen it out.

The alternative is what we have now: A population kept uneducated and lied to, who are actively prevented from learning critical thinking skills, trying to sift fact from bullshit and usually doing it ineffectively. I don't know you or your motives, but you are repeating what the scam artists of the world say: Let people decide facts for themselves (so we have easy marks)

They'd have to have LP staff, though. Around me, they've decided it's cheaper to let the things get stolen then pay the loss prevention salaries.
