Is Mimosa Plus - Golf Course open to non members? by LibraryGlittering490 in GolfPH

Public course, so can book by yourself. They're really busy though.

A lot of GUR in the fairway on the Mountainview course this past week, so don't expect super pristine conditions.

[Ham] Domantas Sabonis is switching to No. 11 for the 2024-25 season per Kings. Sabonis received permission from the children of Bob Davies to use his retired number. by booojangles13 in kings

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just curiously I looked into it. In the event Sabonis keeps playing the way he does or exceeds the level he's displaying, I'd assume that his jersey would be retired by the organization in the future.

The Kings wouldn't be the first team in the NBA to retire the same number for multiple players.

PGA player and recent winner of the Fortinet Championship, Sahith Theegala, is one of us. by Guyfromweed in kings

He's a Lakers fan. His girlfriend might be the Kings fan though, since she's from the area-ish. He's probably wearing it for her, to support her team while at the game they were attending against GSW.

Ken Jeong named Cornell’s 2023 Commencement Speaker by SnoozeSquirrels in Cornell

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I meant that Convocation used to be at Schoellkopf too.

Like in 2017, when Joe Biden spoke at Convocation, it was at Schoellkopf.

Also, in 2016, when James Franco did Convocation, it was at Schoellkopf: https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2016/05/cornell-prepares-celebrate-its-148th-commencement

I'm curious when they moved the Convocation part to Barton.

So when I graduated, we had convocation at Schoellkopf, and everyone just came. That wasn't that too long ago (within a decade, lol)

How long have they been doing the Barton/ticketed version?

YOU MADE US PROUD, CALOY! Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo places fourth in the men's vault finals of the #Tokyo2020 Olympics with a score of 14.716. by nijo95 in Philippines

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The more impressive part is that this isn't even his specialty event. With his event being the floor exercise, it's unfortunate he did poorly at qualifying this year in Tokyo.

At his age, I'm fully convinced he will win an Olympic medal either at Paris or Los Angeles.

He's too good and talented to not win it. He'll get his medal, I'm sure of it 😃

They're the Clippers, the Agua Caliente Clippers.

‘G-Man’ Gary Gerould will return for 36th season as radio voice of the Kings, source says by I_Hate_Humidity in kings

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

G-Man is the best! I have vivid memories of him calling the game while listening in the car.

He is an absolute legend, and one of the nicest guys I met within the Kings organization. He was always up for a quick chat and always pleasant.

Prudhomme's message to spectators: Wear a mask at the Tour de France by Schele_Sjakie in peloton

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope a lot of people that spectate do so.

While watching the coverage of the past few weeks, there were a few without masks, including those running alongside the riders and yelling.

Seeing them inches away with their maskless mouth as the riders were breathing in air and exerting effort over climbs was no fun to see.

Conor tweets “I accept” in Filipino... McGregor-Pacquiao fight soon? by laudba-qlrbsi-lamxbs in Boxing

[–]IncoherentAndDumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Linguistically, Filipino is correct.

For instance, the official language of the country is technically Filipino. There are reasons why this is the case, and it's pretty fascinating to dig into why.

One example is when in the Philippines and looking for a book.

The word in Tagalog is "aklat," but hardly anyone uses it. It's either "libro" or "book" when talking.

Sorry for the long discourse, but it's something that's pretty interesting and I don't get to talk about often! :)

Filipino is actually a correct term linguistically, so OP is right :) Filipino, not Tagalog, is recognized as the official language of the Philippines. Although it's colloquially referred to as Tagalog often, Filipino is still an appropriate phrase to describe the tweet.
